I'm gonna try something new tomorrow. I am gonna swap the pan of my D1000 with the pan of my old D500 and see what happens to the signals. The monting bracket looks identical. So what y'all think? Anybody ever tried?

why, you'll lose the ability to get 129.

If they could've gotten all three with the same 500 size dish, obviously they wouldn't have invented a dish 1000...

You sure it'll lose 129? Some put the Duals on a D500 with a y-bracket instead of an I-bracket and have higher 129 signals. The 500 is just a tad smaller than a 1000, but alot taller. I even thought of getting a Winegard 76cm dish and screw the pan on the dish arm, to prevent having disassemble the whole thing and having to reaim it.

That's because they're using the 500 to only receive the 129 signal. I have not seen/heard of a 500 get all 3...

I understand what you mean. I just thought that the fact, if you mount a dual with an I-bracket on the narrower D500, the dual will be off center. Wouldn't it be about the same if you mount the Twin and the dual on a W-bracket on a D1000, which is the regular setup. The dual would be about the same distance off center. But the D500 is actually bigger than the D1000. The main reason they made the D1000 smaller was the appearance, and I can't get rid of the thought that they sacrificed signal strength with this. Especially on 129. My signals on 119 were higher before with my D500 as they are now. And I tried to tweak the crap out of it to get the max out of the signals. The highest I can get on 119 is 93. 110 is mid 80's, 129 is around 80. I don't have tree problems. 119 on my old D500 was over 100, 110 was in the 90's. That D1000 is a design flaw to me.

I was able to get 110/119/129 on a Dish500

SIgnals were 110+ on 119, 100+ on 110 but only 75-77 on 129

Ice, would you think you would have had lower readings on a D1000 instead? I mean what do you think of my idea with the off center comparison?

I posted pictures. Mine was a jerry rig job when they first turned up 129 so I didnt mess with 110/119...I just hose clamped a LNB next to 119 for 129 :)

its very possible with the lower readings. I know people with Superdish that had the same thing. So they used a D500 for 110/119 and repeaked their SD for 105 or 121

When you try to aim at 3 slots at once, you're bound to have some issues. My way was 2 slots at once and then the 3rd was done later :)

Ice, your setup shows, that the 129 Dual is actually even more off center, than with a W-bracket, and you still got mid 70's. So if I swap the pan, in theory it should be even better. Look very close, and you'll see that the W-bracket would move the Dual more to the center, because on a W-bracket the 119 sits right in the middle. On a D500 with thw Y-bracket 119 and 110 are both off center, so basically the Dual for 129 would be sitting kinda were the Twin sits on A D500.

I havent seen a D1000 in person so I don't know exactly what LNB is aimed where.

The dish500 is offset for both LNB's...the 129 I just slapped up and got a 75 in MN, where its tough to get to being with (and that picture was done about a week after 129 was turned up)

A mid 70's on a 129 is not all that bad. I'm rather amazed that a simple hoseclamp works to bring it all together. Props dude!

considering I live in MN (where its tough anyways) and that was about 5-7 days after Dish moved E5 to 129 that was pretty good. If you notice the receiver couldn't acknowledge the satellite at the time (in the check switch screen) :)

What really makes no sense, the dish 500 won't allow the 21 switch to accept 129. I never knew this.

Reminds me, the 21 switch won't accept 2 ku fss linear sats, or rather 121 & 105
together. Any other sat combinations are fine. We found this out when those poistions debuted. No fw updates ever corrected, somebody wanting to maintain
121 exclusive intl's, living in a 105 local market.

Will see a repeat with AMC-16 I'm sure.

I have heard of people getting in 101, 110, and 119 on a Dish500 by strapping the lnbf on the other side. This is good for those that may want the core DirecTv programming. Perhaps one could attach an lnbf on both sides of the twin lnbf to achieve 101, 110, 119, 129? If a Dish500 is picking up off of the very edge of one side of the reflector for 129 then why couldn't it pick up 101 off of the very edge of the other side of the reflector? I am sure a SuperDish could pickup several more slots.

Well concerning the improvement of 129, people go with a single D500 for 129, which showed improvements in signal strength. So why not use the 500 pan (reflector) and put it on the 1000 instead right away? Apparently the D1000 reflector is the culprit, right?

I was eyeballing my extra 500 the other day and my 1000 and thought nah...but good idea! if I was not using my D* Phase III, i would try swapping it with the 1000 reflector or pan and see what happened...(should be same bolt pattern should it not?)
