I can see we have a Dish price increase coming in just under a month. The normal $5 increase, but this is the second $5 increase in 2021. Locals add-on pack stays at $12.

Yeah. I know that the prices go up each year, but to push the increase up by 2 months to 10 months in between increases, there must have been a steep increase somewhere. And then if they come to a deal with Sinclair or Tenga or any other locals, since the locals are still only $12, are those increases being spread across everyone and everything? To see the welcome pack and Smart Pack increase by the same amount as all the others does make me wonder that.

Also, I have to wonder if they are going to be bringing back the RSNs and that is going to play a part in the increase. As I look at the past year, I haven't seen a lot of new channels added, or a lot of new HD channels added.

YouTube TV is looking better & better (for those with decent internet). I love my Hopper & have been with Dish for years, but another price increase now, loss of NBC (with week to week possible loss of CBS too) has become too much.
Dish is no longer affordable.

Could be Dish knows that many would drop locals if price jumped too much

My guess is Dish is going to follow what other providers do and have 2 price increases a year, one increase is for the general service, then second increase for Broadcast, RSN (only if they come back), DVR/Box fees, Charter and Comcast already do this.

Speaking of Charter, if you think paying $12 for locals to Dish is bad, they charge $17.99 and then another $5 for the RSN and no option not to receive them, unlike Dish.

A price hike in November, how about that? Will we get another price hike in January when Dish usually announces price hikes?

Man, in 12 months, Welcome Pack has become a pretty *unholy language that could trigger the apocalypse* awful bargain.

The irony is I probably would (as in will) step up to Flex and boot Sling, and reduce my cost. I lose NBCSN, but at this point, it ain't worth that price. Sling and Welcome Pack was pretty good for a while, but those days are over. That costs as much as 120 now.

Yeah, and NBCSN is shutting down at the end of December, so you would lose it anyways at that point.

I had researched this move and decided to wait until after either NBCSN shut off or the EPL announced a beneficial winner for the next broadcast rights contract. But forget that on principal. Welcome Pack used to be good, but the cost of locals has killed it.

And I guess this creates a new problem having a 722K. Can I move the EHD from the 722K to the Hopper without losing the programming? I didn't realize I needed a Hopper to get Flex.

You don't. I have a 722k and have Flex.....I think they had to send me a new program card (the credit card sized one you slip into the front panel) to make Flex work.

Oh my... that is important to know. Sticking with the 722K would be the easiest thing.

What was the process? You get the card, then contact them? Or you get the card, plug it in, wait for the sparks to stop shooting out and then go online and add Flex manually?

They confirmed the card exists and they are setting up shipping for it.

In answer to your question about moving your EHD from the 722 to a Hopper, yes that works just fine. I did just that when the Hopper first came out.

This is in the fine print.....Effective 11/16/21, the price of Welcome Pack for customers who subscribed to it prior to 1/15/19 will be $40.99/month

Yes, if I remember correctly, you get the card and then call them while they configure it to work in the 722k while you wait on hold. I don't remember the sequence after that, whether I downgraded from AT 120 to Flex via the website or if they did it for me. But it was pretty easy and only took a few minutes.

I like the Flex Pack because it has what we want. I'll add the National Action Pack for things I want to watch on ESPN and then remove it that same night to avoid getting charged for it. I hope DISH keeps it for a long time.
