Dish reinstall on pole after new roof

I am an Electronic Tech with 44 years of experience dish 500 signal is weak.you will loose signal when it rains. Dish 1000 plus is 38 inches wide. The bigger the dish better the signal like C-BAND never looses signal with thunderstorm.
The trick is in the alignment, as long as you can align it precisely, your good.

Nah. For well aimed dishes, little if any difference between the two, for two satellites.

I did not lose signal from rain when I had a simple EA arrangement and a 500. Not fixed, not portable.
There is a reason Dish 1000+ antenna costs $300.
DISH 1000+ allows customers to receive programming from four orbital locations; 110°, 118.7°, 119° and 129° using a dish antenna size similar to SuperDISH.
I am convinced it has better signal than $100 puny 500.I have the 500 antenna no thanks.
Dish network will never give you 1000+ antenna for $100.

I don't lose for very long with D500. Had a period in this month where rainfall went way above average and there was some prolongation of outage with that. D500 & 1000 are larger than the original single-slot DBS dishes but don't really provide any more gain due to their nature as multi-slot dishes. They need that marginal added size just to keep even on gain across multiple slots. However, there have been some added-size DBS dishes offered for single slot and at least for 500 (2-slot), both by DiSH and aftermarket, for added gain and reduced rainout periods, mostly adopted by commercial users. If you really want a 1000 variant dish they should be plenty cheap on eBay

Non-pen mounts are rarely used in home installations and are more common in commercial installations where roof penetration may not be permitted

You keep mentioning 118 and 129, two satellites that are no longer in operation for US use.

when we had directv it went down to with there big ass dish. it was pouring so hard out that i couldn't see where i was going. when i had directv in the 18 inch dish days it never went down in rain ice snow and so on

The more satellite locations a dish is designed for the weaker it is on any one satellite because the dish is detuned in the horizonal axis.
Ideally you should have one dish for each orbital location all joined with a switch but that is impractical.
Dish is only using 2 orbital locations in each arc do the dual satellite dish is best.
Size only helps if the extra width us properly tuned to one or two orbitals.

Its going to the 1000 was a nightmare for dealers & installers with their assignment of HD to 129, with that low look angle. 119 had been bad enough. And who didn't want HD?

But, "1000"- who wouldn't want a powerful DiSH 1000?

You are right about 129 location. I used dish 300 antenna only for 129 and connected to Dish when HD was there 1000+ biggest antenna for better signal. Now i use the 1000+ antenna 110/119 location had to change azimuth and elevation signal is very high. When i purchased hopper from dish. Technican brought the hopper he told me he never seen signal that high on 119 and 110.

I was on dish 1000+ for 18 years and only lost signal a couple times due to snow. I'm now on a dish 500 and lost signal lots of time due to rainstorms.

Trying to remember; I only installed like a couple of "+"dishes with the 118.7. Would those have been 1000+? Was there also a 500+? They were a sizable dish, of course, because the 118.7 wasn't high power DBS(?)

The 1000+ Antenna and 500+ antenna are same size the only diffrence is 1000+ has extra bracket for 129 orbital location both are not used any more now they use smaller antenna.
You could use two 1000+ antenna one for 110 and another for 119 and you need a switch also both LNB have to be dish pro plus to work for hopper.

Right. It was still the D500+ then
This is why Echostar satellites are better than Directv.using diffrent techolgy.
DIRECTV's unlimited capacity and single fleet was good they'd say, but then the Ka-band satellites suffer from a bit more rain fade. DISH is harder to aim in general but more tolerant of rain fade.
DISH's fleets do a better job of covering the oceans and international waters just off the US coast. Many a cruise ship uses DISH satellite because you can just receive it better when you're offshore.

The reason 62 and 72 eastern arc for cruise ships in east, and the west using 105 orbital location and 110 and 119.

Hi, First time posting on this forum. Dish customer since 1998. The best way to install the dish is a non penetrating mount with 6 blocks total weight 180 pounds. Always use dish1000 plus antenna if you can get it on ebay etc. The biggest dish looking at 110/118/119 since 129 location is gone. Signal stength is 80 on 119 and 110 here in Minnesota. eastern arc is weaker.62 and 71 orbital location. I have americas 250 local channels i get it via outside antenna free. Total cost with tax $105 .since i am legacy customer they give me $25 off for 1 year. I have vip 211k since i own my reciever and also I have Hopper also purchased from dish, I dont use it. streaming from youtube etc is slow not for me, You cant get americas 250 from any so called streming company.
DISH NETWORK IS THE BEST. In the late 80s I had ECHOSTAR C-BAND system with Echostar receiver.
The 118 is also gone, making the 1000 dish obsolete. Dish is also in the early stages of a widespread migration to the Western Ark, making the dish 500 kit the best option, and yes, charlesrshell, I still have you. It's all packaged up, and when I get back from my vacation, back home, I promise I will get my wife to mail it out

He must be a pretty new technician. With a dish 500 kit, I can easily get higher signals than I could with the older slimline, hybrid, LNB's.

Thanks. I'm getting excited.

Rubbish you cannot get higher signal than my 1000+ with dish pro plus antenna never looses signal with my system even with thunder storm 500 almost 12 inches less wide. the bigger the dish better the signal. since the 80s i have been installing CBAND and DBS dishes.

Rubbish when i lived back east in boston back in the stone age. we had dtv with the pizza dish and it never went down during rain ice and snow. it's all in how it's pointed and signal strength. we had dtv with there big ass dish and it went down during a rainstorm!! and our signal was at 99%

Back in the old days the 18" dish was mainly pre HD and used a different frequency to broadcast. When they launched HD the frequency was higher and that is why the signal went pfffft when it rained. You are comparing apples to coconuts :)
If you would have tuned to the SD version I'm sure it came in.

Huh? The original DTV/USSB (in 1994) was of course in SD, but the frequencies were the same ones in use all along by both them & DiSH. Ka-band specifically allocated for high power direct-to-home satellite. The exceptions to that were when DiSH hybridized to utilize Ku-band along with Ka to add more capacity for all those sat locals as they did with the SuperDiSH for 105 and then the "+" dishes for 118.7, requiring significantly larger reflectors. Those (still) using those larger reflectors today no doubt enjoy higher signal/shorter outages on today's all-Ka signals.

For whatever reasons, 129 on DiSH always produced a lower signal than 110/119, thus with most HD on 129, it would drop out first whilst the SD on the other 2 slots was still going. DiSH even thusly resoftwared its rx's to automatically switch over to "the SD equivalent" (and show notification onscreen that it was doing so).

Tried to look up "DBS frequencies" and all results at least several pages deep are for "Deep Brain Stimulation"- anyone here had that??

Here's 1st thing at all close I could track down, but it's totally bogus, right...?:

OK- did/does DTV use Ku?

I give up. The internet is now officially useless. Apparently both DTV & DiSH have used Ku, at high power. I was thinking Ka, but they also use that...If it's worse for signal propagation, why did they do that?

Multi view comes to Hopper Plus and Joey 4 Receivers!

Did my OTA antenna make my Hopper sick?
