Dish Size

I feel kinda dumb asking this but what is the correct way to measure a dish?

diameter right across the front of it with the tape taut. If its an eliptical measure both the widest and the narrowest like 36" x 24" etc...

most dishes are egg shaped so it may not be the full 30" round...more like 33x30

Many dishes advertised as 36" (90 CM) are more like 34.5" wide by 37.5" high. The egg shape is to compensate for the offset, so that the dish looks round from the point of view of the satellite.
