DSR922 serial number confusion!

Someone on Ebay is selling a DSR922 with the 7th digit in the serial number being a 9!

Am I picking the wrong digit to determine the year manufactured or what???

He says it was bought new in 2007!

If it is a 1999 unit then most likely it should be a GI unit and not a Moto like the photo on Ebay shows. (It is a photo of the actual item/box!) If somehow it was a Moto from that year what chance would there be of it not being sold until 2007 the year the seller said they bought it brand new???

I also had the seller double check the numbers!
