I just returned from a trip around Cape Horn at the bottom of South America and was surprised to see numerous DirecTV dishes in Ushuaia, Argentina, the most southern city in the world. These were large round dishes, about 4 feet across, and pointed north towards the equator. I knew about DirecTV Latin America but didn't think their reach extended that far south.

Yes, beams from the DLA satellites at 95W extend that far south to cover all of Argentina. Especially the regional and pan-regional beams from the DLA-1 payload of the new IS-30 satellite to be followed soon by DLA-2 of IS-31.

However, as you can see subscribers still nevertheless reqiure a fringe area dish of around 1.3m since you are obviously near the downlink beam edges.
