dvr possible in canada

After much ado I finally managed to get my account up and running.

I have a D10 but would like to get a dvr to take north with me this week.

I read a phone line is required to initialise dvr and up date.

my question is can I buy the dvr and attach my phone line
to reive info before I take it north and then call DTV to get it streamed.??

obviously I cannot keep a phone lne attached on my 416 canadian number.

have just purchased a usb skype phone so i can call tool numbers in states

but think I might be out of luck with trying for dvr

hopefully somebody can please advise me

If it's an R-15 you don't need the phone line.
