Echostar has apparantly made a decision on satellite moves to accomodate their new Brazilian licenses.

After Echostar 16 begins service, Echostar 15 will move to 45W and provide service thru their Hughes subsidiary to the Brazilian market.

And more DBS is better for Dish. Now, we will have 3 markets, Canada, US, and Mexico using DBS and they probably have agreements to back each other up with their older (spare) satellites if needed. This reduces costs for everyone.

I think the beam is in their filing and will generate the map (after I finish installing my new sound system- yaa!)

As noted in the application it is a temporary move, they are building a satellite for that slot. It could come back some day...

the echo15 map is not as awesome looking as other maps I've seen of repurposed U.S. sats covering South America. Really weird to see a much better CONUS shaped beam covering argentina. btw, serving south america for dbs must be a trend - other than echo15, it appears another older DBS bird from our arc is getting ready to be repurposed for south american dbs use!

Echostar has filed FCC application to build, launch and operate a new FSS satellite (Echo 45W) to be co-located with their BSS satellite at 45W. The FSS satellite has two beams, one covering North American and one covering South America. The principle use of the FSS satellite would be to to backhaul content between the two continents for rebroadcast on other systems (BSS, cable, etc).

Interesting. Intelsat 14 is already at 45W, and according to LyngSat only has 6 Ku-band transponders in use.

This license indicates the transfer to Quetzsat 1 should be complete and Echostar 15 can move to 45W.
