After setting up my first FTA dish 3-4 years ago. I've become a sort of evangelist for FTA up here un NW ND. I have an array at home, one at the shop, and have set up three others in 2009. Have had a lot of interest from people all over the county, but at the moment the ground is a bit stiff for digging posts in. I'm predicting a good year for FTA when the thaw comes.

Great contest!

Hockey was my reason for FTA. Oh how I remember watching Hockey Night in Canada back in the late 80's on a Saturday night on the almost $3,000 installed 10' dish! I sure wish I had it back...;)

First off any type of cable or sat is very expensive in this economy especially if you dont have a job. SO this would appeal to a lot of people.

Secondly I have never owned a free to air sat system. Taking my first paragraph above I do understand what the cost saviings to me and my familty would be.

Thanks for a great contest. I got my first Bud in 1989, but got away from it for a few years. We tried the two subscription companys. but couldn't watch much tv for the Trash, so I decided to look at C band and Ku band, and glad I did. We have plenty of family friendly programs for all ages, and don't have to delete channels so the grandkids don't get electrified. This website, Satelliteguys is a blessing to us all. Thanks .

I'm currently saving up my pennies to buy my first FTA system. I had C-band subscriptions several year ago but constantly had problems with it (not the least of which was my dog repeatedly digging up my ribbon cable and chewing it in half) so I switched to DirecTV. I had that for several years and grew weary of spending so much money on it. I've now had it shut off for about 3 years and have been living off of hulu and OTA broadcasts. I would like to get a FTA system to add the ability to receive ION/RTN/qubo to our meager OTA selection.

My plan is to have enough pennies saved up to get a good receiver this summer and bring to life the B.U.D. that is sitting in the back yard of my new house begging for some WD-40 and paint.

my first fta receiver

I have been interested in satellite tv beginning with the 10 ft andrews dish, fta is just a natural evolution to satisfy curiosity:angel:

I first became interested in FTA Satellite after becoming a SatelliteGuys member. I had no idea that there were alternatives to DN and Dtv.
Sadly, despite being more informed of my options, I have still not yet had the opportunity to utilize FTA... but winning this package would certainly change that!! :D

Hundreds of Free Channels available even some in HD, programming from all over the world.
TV at its best.

Well, ever since i became a sub to DirecTV i was always under the impression that satellite TV was being able to catch TV stations around the country (obviously not the way to go!). When i learned about wildfeeds & backhauls, etc. I wanted to learn more & more, then i found this site and all the wonderful info and ideas. Even though I dont have a permanent setup just yet, I'm getting there. Now that I own my own house, I intend to install motorized on my garage, instead of on a tripod.

Things I would tell a friend to get them interested in FTA:
It's free - no subscription fees.
You can see news from a non-american perspective (Al Jazeera English, Russia today)
Quite a few decent Christian channels. (JCTV)
Sports feeds.

What got you interested to purchase your first Free to Air satellite system?

I first found a list of available channels on the web and found a few that neither Dish or Direct had in there lineup... Plus I could not beet the price. Now that money is tight, I have been toying with the idea of going completely free-to-air, and this is just the setup that would push me to that choice! Great Offer and thanks for supporting such an amazing forum with a great community!

If a friend asked me about FTA, the first thing I would tell them is to visit this site and read read read..
then I'd say "get some beer and we'll get you setup to do it!" ;-)

WOW this is one amazing contest!

I would tell a friend or coworker that with FTA he or she could be receiving hundreds of channels without any subscription fees. This would be of great benefit, especially in the current economy with a lot of people out of work. I would also tell them about all the many news and sports feeds available that most CATV or DBS subscribers don't get to see.

I got interested in FTA because I owned several BUD's back in the 80's and I remembered what a joy it was to be able to receive satellite TV.

Thanks again for offering such a wonderful contest.

Wow nice promotion. I got interested in FTA because of all the money I was giving out to Dishnetwork. I wasnt watching most of the channels anyway. I ran across a FTA forum on the internet and the rest is history.

My latest spew I tell people includes a mention of Iceberg's "Pornstar" adventure! It is a real attention getter! Then I follow with what type of programming is actually up there without going into the specifics on channels. A lot of people still think it is illegal! And a lot of people also think that a satellite dish carries only smut!

The way I got into FTA was looking at the Skyvision catalogs my dad received for years but he never dealt with them. I would take them home look at them a little and save them. A few years ago I started going through a pile of them and started to read them about these FTA channels. Then a Google search led me to this site! :D

"What would you tell a friend or co-worker to interest them in owning a free to air satellite system?"
In the past I have spoke about the channels not available elsewhere for free. I have set up a system for my Dad for RTV.

"What got you interested to purchase a free to air system?"
That's easy, I saw the receivers in a Skyvision catalog and was curious what else was up there.

Thanks to Brian and Robby for the great contest.

Like a lot of others on here, I got interested in FTA first from this forum, and them by the continued price hikes of Satellite tv.

Great contest!

WHY DID I BUY MY FIRST SYSTEM???
I got interested in FTA when we were moving to this area. I heard about Glorystar from Paul Crouch, I was already listening to TBN on shortwave. We chose this location, partly because of the southern view of the sky!
I wanted TBN and Daystar but I got the TBN MUX , daystar, Cornerstone, Word and now Riverbroadcasting and much more.

What do I tell others to get them started?
Twenty-four hours a day of Christian television and more. You can catch Joyce Meyer and Joel Ostein many time a week on various channels. AND NO monthly fees. I will help them set it up. OH, and do not forget Jesse ! (Duplantis, that is! )

Newbee in the site

I got interested in the Free To Air ,because a friend had this 10ft.BUD and was going to trow it away.So I asked him for it,It's already mounted on the roof.By the way,If someone in the site has some info from this Dish (Perfect 10)and would like to share it,I would apreciate. Paco49:D
