Tough solution. Most existing customers would need a $150 SWM and probably a truck roll @ $99 or more to install it. It'd be cheaper to do powerline or 11n.

Unless I'm missing something, this also wouldnt give any of the receivers internet access for VOD, PPV reporting, system reporting, etc. Unless they're going to make one of the receivers into a MOCA to ethernet router for the MOCA network. Good luck with that.

MoCA has been mentioned as the way this might be done and Entropic (who supplies some of the SWM "magic") is participating in this. The frequencies used by MoCA overlap those used for Directv signals (but are compatible with cable), but it could be made to work at a lower frequency. It shouldn't interfere with the number of tuners the SWM supports but would require some additional hardware, which would probably interface with the ethernet ports.

As this ramps up I'm sure DirecTV will start pushing SWM even more than they have been recently, and of course the new functionality will be new so it will be targeted at new customers and existing customers will likely need to pay something (free adapters, pay for truck roll probably) to get it up and going. Unfortunately a large percentage of consumers think they should get the latest and greatest for free.
