Has anyone done this, motorize a 1.2meter ChannelMaster/Primestar offset dish? I'm looking for ideas. I have one idea, but there may be a better way.

Some guys have put 'em on BUD mounts, and moved 'em with a jack.
I know Turbosat did something like that with a 1m or 1.2m Primestar a while back.
The problem you run into, is in putting an offset dish on a mount made for a prime-focus dish.
All that's necessary, is a mod-mount (some brackets), giving you a down-tilt to the dish, to make up for the up-look that it inherently has.

The other idea, is to remove all the existing heavy mount, and make up some lighter brackets, to adapt the dish to a large H-H motor such as the DG-380.
I know that's good for the molded commercial dishes up to 1m, but don't know 100% if a 1.2m ChannelMaster is too heavy.
I'm sure those who've tried, will comment.

I use a Moteck SG2100 motor on my Primestar 1.2 meter with excellent results! Go to SEARCH on this forum and type in something like "Primestar dish SG2100" and you will see many threads dealing with motorizing the 1.2 dishes. Some threads will tell you how to make your own mounts and setting up the motors.
Good luck, and have fun!

I have a source for unused bud mounts and that's what I was thinking. But can't vision making it look "decent" . Thanks for the suggestions of the h to h motors and what to look for on the forum. A hunting I will go. Thanks again.

!captain, S W E E T! USDownlink, I've researched the Jaeger, but it appears that they are only available in Europe, only occasionally here in the states. That may be the "cat's meow". The SG motor would require building a mount compatible with the bent pipe on the motor, and don't know about how to fab and still have enough strength. Going to keep options open, hoping to do it "on the cheap" like recycle an unused polar mount. I think I know where there's a BV mount that may do the trick. Will have to check on it. Also, going to search the forum for more info, especially pictures, for they are worth a thousand. May be a while before anything happens though, will post back when it does. Thanks for all of your suggestions. FaTAir

(Anole points to post above)

A Birdview mount is a hell of a thing to put a 1.2m dish on, but I was about to post a link to Phlatwound's thread anyway. - :D

It would be difficult to find a stiffer or more rugged motor/mount! - :up

yes I can say Anole "you hit the nail on the head" yes they are built very strong an well built. really they are over built for a 8 1/2 foot dish, I even fab a mount on to a 12-foot Paraclispe an it ran it fine too, but here is a picture of my 10-foot ChannelView on a Birdview mount.
