I've been taking my new VIP 222 to my cabin when vacationing and I would hook it up to the old 300 dual LNB dish that I had on the roof. I got all of my 119 channels on both TV's but couldn't score those on 110 because of the dual input cabels not being able to connect to the single input on the 222 for TV1 and TV2. I was pretty happy with the setup though, and had no complaints.

I recently decided to replace my 300 dish on the roof with a 500 dish setup that I had laying around. I didn't change a thing except to mount the dish and LNB itself on the same pole and didn't change the Azimuth or Elevation (If I did it couldn't have been by much since it's pointing in the exact same direction according to the before and after pictures I took). I then went inside to turn the TV on and I was shocked at what I saw on the screen. I not only picked up all of the 119 AND 110 channels on the same single LNB connection I had used before, but I PICKED UP 29 HD CHANNELS! (6 of which were PPV). What's even more amazing is that the HD channels on my non HD 36" Toshiba TV set are obviously near HD quality and stand out from the same SD channels!

I was under the impression that we had to have the 1000.2 dish in order to pick up all three birds; 110,119 and 129 and I don't know how this could have happened but something seems strange about all of this.

In checking the DISH setup signal strength meter on my TV, it shows I'm only getting a signal from 110. Nothing shows up on 119 or 129

Here's some more info that might help figure this out:
110 Az 162 El 49 Sk 86 119 Az 162 El 49 Sk 86

129 Az NA El NA Sk NA

Any Takers?

I believe the aim of the 500 will be a bit different than the 300 (2 sats), plus have skew added.

Look here to see what channels are on what satellites. 110 has some HD channels on it.

Seems to be a reasonable explantion for why I'm getting these channels then, if they're moving them over to 110. Any reason why they are doing this? I thought the 110 was full.

Your post got me curious, so I checked my HD channels (I'm near Seattle)

You are seeing the HD channels that are on the 110 and 119 satellites, or perhaps 119 and 129.

If you have a 211 you will see the HD channels on 110. But, if your pole is off some you probaly have 119 & 129. Your SD tv will see those channels, but just in SD.

They're not moving them to 110, they've been there. Not all HD has been on wing sats.

SciFi is also missing from the list. Thats on 110 as well.

Except for just a couple of exceptions, all of the oldest HD channels are on 110. Also, if they are on 110, thats where everyone gets them. If they are 129, they are also on 61.5 for most of the eastern people.
