Some people are complete idiots and the guy that contacted the uplinker should be idiot of the year. These feeds are NOT MEANT FOR US but can be received and watched under the radar so to speak. The same thing is when people post wild feeds of special interest in the public forums that may cause these feeds in the future to be encrypted. There is always someone out there to ruin it for everyone else.

Next time a movie channel of some other pay service has to drop the encryption for some technical reason, make sure this guy calls their TOC and remind them about being in the clear so they know people are watching them for free!.

IMO, some folks here need to get off their high horse. Its not like none of us never did anything stupid/dumb/whatever before ..yet the bandwagon came out against Danthe/notthe/man.....Heck, I did 5 dumb things this morning alone...and there is still 7 hours before Monday.

Also, am I the only one who finds this conversation ironic because its held in an open forum? Not under a locked site like the PUB or....you know.

A few posts above talked about banning Dan... I dont know the mate, never really talked to him much so I have no agenda here however I do recognize when someone is being picked on.... no cool in my book.

If a BAN DAN bandwagon is going on....ban me as well because sooner or later am going to say something stupid (probably sooner than later)

Without knowing about the phone calls etc I could see how someone would think that. But there's a lot of stuff outside of satguys about this.

Sorry you feel dans being picked on but when more then a few people invest time and effort in someone and then posts come on like the above it gets people mad. Like me I was mad big time when another mod txt me last night about this post. Nobody can stop anyone from calling or emailing anyone but what's the point in posting about it?

Oh btw there Kraven I'm not sure how you think is on a high horse but I'm not at all I'm an easy going guy to easy going sometimes. People don't get banned very much here but I think if someone just posts stuff knowing its going to get people upset they what's the point?

Speaking for myself, the comment I made was not specifically aimed at Dan. It is what had happened with contacting a provider or uplinker in general that is the issue. That is just 100% wrong and inappropriate and has nothing to do with anyone's horse.

I know from working in the industry with people that have been interrupted by these type of phone calls that it pisses a lot of them off. It is not cool to interrupt someone's work when you have zero business doing so, no matter what that work it. Double not cool to do it with satellite and broadcasters when pissing them off could end "free" content for everyone.

@wallyhts, @T134, Kraven may not know or understand that Dan has been talked to about this more than a few times before as I was just told; so the bandwagon tends to come out. I don't think anyone has a high horse going on, except for my younger brother that is.. But we all do make mistakes or do things we shouldn't do despite being warned before a few times. The fact remains no one should email or call or pay a personal visit to a satellite facility or broadcaster, just to tell them hello and your grabbing their signals to enjoy. What they don't know won't hurt them. From what I gathered from Dan over the phone was that he called them on the phone, but later he said he emailed which is the same difference; as it takes away from what they are trying to do. Dan asked me to start a new thread to ask about the info he did receive from the person he contatcted to see if anyone knew what it meant. I knew people would ask me as to how or why I was asking, so I figured it was better to share everything so it made better sense. I didn't mean to get Dan in trouble, he isn't banned yet, and if nothing turns scrambled or transponders reassigned anytime soon, no harm no foul. It's good to remind everyone out there what not to do, if you want to keep FTA going strong.

Dans not getting ban by me I was just pissed and wanted feedback from others. Dan has my number he knows he can call anytime. In fact I wish I would have just called him last night and busted his chops instead of posting which added more fuel to this fire.

Maybe just take away his access to the "What's up there" forum for a few weeks and make it clear that if this happens again, the pitchforks and torches will be brought out full force?

I'm with Kraven about this being in an open forum because there seems to be a lot more going on than what there appears to be within this thread alone and it's impossible to really make a judgement about it without knowing all the details, one in particular which leaves me thinking, huh? Which detail I won't elaborate on, cause I don't want to stomp on anybody's toes and start an argument.

Probably the best thing is to just make it clear, even though as someone else posted, it already should be crystal clear to anyone into FTA for longer than a day, DO NOT call, email or in any way contact uplinkers, operators or anybody in the industry about FTA stuff!

If you do, at least be smart enough to keep it to yourself!

@wallyhts, I agree, on to other positive things and hope nothing bad happens with 99W C-Band in the next 6 months or so. Anyway, I am working on a new miniBUD C-Band experiment, the first half of the experiment is going well according to plan! I hope the second half of the experiment goes just as well and I will post everything in a new thread. Should be intereating for anyone willing to try it out for themselves.
