My journey begins tonight at 6 PM. I pick up the phone dial 1-800-333-DISH, I tell the operator I would like to REACTIVATE my service. He says you need to call another number,1-888-884-2741 and proceeds to transfer me. Of course the call becomes disconnected.

The time is now around 6:15 PM, I attempt to dial the number directly. I get the India call center, and am unable to understand the first operator so after about 5 mins of dealing with her I hang up the call and redial.

6:25 PM I call 1-888-884-2741 again this time I get someone I can understand and I tell him that I would like to subscribe to Showtime only. He says that is fine, and tells me about a 6 dollar a month extra fee for not having a regular package. I agree to this and was prepared for this before I called so no big surprise. Then he proceeds to tell me that I will need to pay the first month up front. Again no big deal I pay the 25 dollars via credit card and then he asks me for my S00 and R00 numbers.

He says can you hold because they are having trouble. I said thats ok. 10 mins later comes back on the line and says we cant get the receiver ID to take in the computer and that he needs me to transfer to another department.

After sitting on hold for another 15 mins the call goes dead.

6:50 I wait 30 mins to see if they can figure out the issue and to allow mt receiver to take the hit.

7:25 I call back to 1-800-333-DISH and end up back in India. I advise the telephone representative of my situation and she says she can't find my account number based upon my telephone number. So I humor her and give her the actual account number. She again says no account is showing. I tell her they already charged my card and she says lets reenter it into the system. So I give her the S00 and R00 numbers and tell her I want Showtime. Same thing happens again with the computer. So she agrees to transfer me to a supervisor. After sitting on hold for another 15 mins, the time is now 7:50 she tells me that the G3 smart card has expired out of the system and needs to be discarded. They can mail me a new one for the small price of $50.00, but it would take at least 3 -5 business days.

I tell her at this point to forget the whole thing and that she can close the account. She agrees and transfers me to a retention specialist. After sitting on hold for another 10 mins a get connected. I explain my situation and the rep reverses the charges and closes the account.

The time is 8:05 PM and there is no way that I will be watching Showtime tonight!

I guess I will wait for Netflix

Heck, in less than that amount of time a total newbie could read enough information from SatelliteGuys to get his dish and receiver up and running! Of course, there's no Showtime, but there's Hispasat! :D

Not to mention the ridiculous pizza dish provider (PDP) service charges and terms of service policies/contracts...

Shame, Charlie! Long live FTA!

I was really wanting to watch the newest season of Weeds. I figured this would be a simple operation. I have a Super Dish that covers 110 118 and 119 already setup not being used, I have an old Mpeg2 receiver with G3 smart card, and it would take mere moments to connect them. Then I would call and turn on service for Showtime and go about watching the TV.

Clearly I was wrong. Why is Dish network loosing market share? We can start by shipping american jobs to India and then having the nerve to ask american prices for service.

COMMENTARY: Sooner or later shipping the last of the american jobs over seas will result in no one having an income and thus no one being able to purchase the slop these companies sell.

If I had a DSR-410 Receiver I would have already been watching TV without having to pick up a phone.

I'm with ya ikki, the problem you had must've been the old receiver with the old card in it. When they upgraded encryption I know they changed out cards. I still have one of those old receivers someplace too, doubt it would do a thing without a new card though. It might be useful for dish alignment, maybe.
