Indeed. At 61.2 cents per gallon (the highest in the nation -- with some of the worst roads), it is fully 24.38 cents more per gallon out of the gates. Then again, the prices also have a lot to do with freeway access (higher prices likely) and proximity to serious competition (lower prices likely).

Transportation costs to your local stations is probably pretty high. My Costco is about 3/4 of a mile off I-5. Last time I visited "The City" (San Francisco), the gas prices there were perhaps 60 cents more per gallon than in San Mateo. You don't need much of an imagination to visualize how costly it must be to deliver fuel in San Fran. I'm sure the facilities leases are unimaginable as well.
