my story is a bit complicated , so maybe I should make a list.

I will be moving to USA asap probably sept 06.

My wife lives in condo in naples fl with no chance of dish installation.

I have direct dish on my home in Toronto and would love
to dump my BEV and get totally set up with DAVE.

I go north on sunday , returning here to naples for the month of march.

purchased a open box d-10 @ BB for 40 bucks last night.

called "d" to ask a few questions.

explained my prob of no home installation possible.

told them will use it with my Rv , so a tripod is required.

my question is this , and apologies for taking a few lines to get to this.

before I fly north on sunday , SHALL I call "d" and sub to basic
programming plus setanta channel.

I have address and bank accounts in fl also drivers licence
but no SSN till my visa is finalised.

what confuses me is I have read that phone line is needed
for initial sub , and other forums have hinted not.

I wll take the d 10 with me to Toronto

I Would wait to call "d" from toronto but do not assume
the 1 800 will be active from Canada.

Sooner I can move to detached house in n carolina the better
and I wont have these small problems.

ps sorry for the long explanation I know there are a few of you who understand this problem.

guess my other alternate , would be to find a D CUSTOMER
here in naples that would kindly let me get hooked up.

I am happy to a paying customer of "d"
its only that nutty canadian CRTC that makes it so hard

No Phone line needed for D10.
If you had a TiVo DVR, you'd need a phone line.

I'd set up your system and call while still in the states.
You'll need to have your dish aligned and good to go when calling because they will transmit programming authorization over the satellite.

but thats my dilemma
have no dish here in naples fl
wifes condo is full of regulations

so will call sun morn before I fly north
get basic programming plus setanta sports set up
then hook up asap sunday aft.

will see what happens

biggest prob is that I cannot call d from toronto

so if I have probs , will get my wife to call

ooops that could cause a international incident

ah well it is worth the effoert

I would have your wife call, then.

You really need the dish aligned and receiver up and running before calling D*, or else she'll be calling D* later to re-send authorizations.

Another idea -- get a cell phone with a US number and call D* from it?
