An elderly friend of mine just moved to a new senior assisted living center. They do not like the idea of hooking up her regular dish because of the dish size. Is it possible to use a 18" round dish with her current LNB and receiver to get enough signal to make it useable? Thanks for any information.

You will not be able to use the 18" dish because the signal will be too weak and it has the wrong type of LNB (circular) on it.
You need to have at least a 31" dish (larger is recommended) , linear LNB and a FTA receiver.

Also note that according to the FCC rules, the facility must allow the 36" dish. They cannot limit the dish size to 18".

Dish size is protected up to 39 inches (1 meter).
