Great sports fan traditions in professional sports

Guys, professional sports only. Go back and read Sandra's original post.

Sandra's only looking for the professional ones.

I thought of some more.

1. I could be breaking my own rule on this one, but it does involve the fans...the Rangers three year old tradition of saluting their fans by raising their sticks to the crowd at center ice after a victory, and the fans responding in kind. It's a wonderful new tradition.

2. Montreal Canadian fans singing the Ole' song.

3. Dallas Stars fans screaming STARS during the national anthem when they get to 'whose broad stipes and bright stars'.

4. Serenading the opposing goalie by mockingly chanting his name.

5. Ranger fans chanting 'LAST PLACE' to the Long Islands, even though we no longer do it...because they're always in last place.

Good God, I just got chills watching that. Thanks for sharing. :up

I use to live about 4 blocks from Wrigley. It is that HUGE high rise you see right behind the center field score board when looking from home plate, it used to be called Irving Palace, it has gone condo since I left in '97. Anyways, I lived on the 25th floor and on nice nights when the Cubbies were playing, during the 7th inning stretch...I would turn off all the lights, open the windows and just listen to both Harry and the crowd.....it was awesome!

Damn did I love that apt.!:up:D:cool:

Talking about fan based traditions, throwing the ball back at Wrigley should certainly be up there. Of course this (like the aforementioned Sausage race from Milwaukee) has been oft copied, but the original is the most notable.

Good call. I once thought that was soooo cool. But now, just about everyone does it.:(

Browns fans throwing batteries and milk bones at Elway and the Broncos in the late 80s? :) :)

Not only is it criminal, it doesn't even make sense. Milk bones flying FROM the dog pound?

Not one of the greatest traditions ever...

Hey, did anyone mention throwing hats onto the ice?
