HD MM's avatar features an Indians player w/quite the impressive afro.

That got me wondering:

What do you consider some of the great hairdos by athletes?

P.S. HD MM, who IS the guy in your avatar, and was he a good player or a lesser-known player?

That would be Oscar Gamble, he was a well known and good player, bounced around with a lot of teams.

Oscar Charles Gamble (born December 20, 1949, in Ramer, Alabama) is a former outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball. He played for 17 seasons, from 1969 to 1985, on seven different teams: the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees on two separate occasions, as well as the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres, and Texas Rangers.

Nicknamed the Big O by Yankees announcer Phil Rizzuto, Gamble was a relatively small man, listed at 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 165 pounds. He still hit 200 career home runs in just over 4500 major league at bats, an impressive ratio for the era he played in.

Russell Westbrook (UCLA)

Don't forget about the pencil eraser tip hair do's that were popular some time ago in basketball. Other than that, Rodman's hair insanity tops the list.
