Hardware Acceleration and Fan Control

First, does anybody know the function of the hardware acceleration? What difference does it make?

I have noticed my fan is too noisy. Is it possible to make the fan control "auto". i.e only come on when needed?

I overclocks the CPU 300MHz to 333MHz. I have an elite but it doesn't have a fan in it.
