I have been asked to start a thread on this subject. I do not have a Hopper 3, so I cannot verify any of this for myself. If this information is incorrect, please direct all complaints at eddie willers. :D :p
By the way. HBO Max was finally added to Amazon Prime yesterday. I'd post about it in the Dish Satellite forum, but it might get squirreled away in this Cord Cutters thread anyway. Crodrules, can you start a thread there if you think it worthy?

This is more to inform Dish subscribers who lost HBO as an option long ago. The last time Dish had them, they had dropped all discounts and charged the full $14.99 for the multi-channels. Now Amazon Prime has agreed to carry HBO Max at that same $14.99 price and also gives On Demand to virtually anything that has ever appeared on HBO (Yeah "Deadwood" and "Rome")

A good deal and a way for Dish folks to get the HBO they lost.

If I go into the Prime app on my Hopper 3, there is a clickable headline that says something like "Access the HBO Max app through your Amazon login".
I subscribe to HBO as an Amazon Prime channel, due to all the rigamarole (sp?) surrounding HBO, Max, Prime, Roku, etc.

Kinda funny...when I click that headline to supposedly access HBO Max, one of the many non-searchable titles that appears is "Ford v Ferrari".
I click on that, and I get a welcoming message "HBO restricts its content through Prime Video Channels on this device...."

So, they advertise a movie that I guess is on HBO Max, and then throw this message up without throwing up the movie.

Not quite baked.

I can't watch an HBO program Hard Knocks thru Prime Video app in my Hopper 3. It says to see devices I can watch on at amazon.com. When I check in Amazon it says not available thru DISH Network devices. Other HBO programs are working OK thru my Hopper Prime Video app. HBO Hard Knocks also works OK thru my Firestick. Why are some HBO programs working in my Hopper 3 and some don't? Thanks for help.

Altitudinous, I basically have the same issue as you. Are you having any luck today? Some HBO programs work for me but not Hard Knocks. I wonder if we should see if the app can be deleted and start over!.

I just tried it again. It's worse. Now I get that restricted message on anything I click on in the HBO channel on the Prime app on the Hopper 3. Very much not baked. That would be interesting to be able to delete the app and start over. Maybe someone on here knows how to do that. Anyone? Bueller?

Just for fun, I signed out of the Prime app, and re-registered it. Same result. Nothing from HBO can be played on this app for me.

To get HBO on Prime, you also have to have to subscribe to HBO Max. HBO is not free on Prime, Prime is only the carrier. Just like on Apple TV. You can get 'all' the subscription streaming services (Hulu, HBO, ShowTime, CBS ALL Access, Apple TV+, Disney +, Everything else + :) but you have to pay each and every streaming service separately. So if you want to see everything you better be Bill Gates or Elon Musk.

I found this DISH link. It says HBO not available. I tried to deregister Prime Video in my H3 and then register again and HBO still won't work.

It is actually quite easy to not spend that much money on streaming services, gift cards, buy them and stock up when they go on sale.

Also, on certain credit cards you can use points to buy gift cards, I have HBO, Netflix, Hulu, CBS and YTTV and my costs are $0 thanks to points from Capital One and Amazon, the only one I paid $$$ for is Disney+ when they had that deal for 3 years at $140.

But if I had to pay real money for all of the services monthly, it would still be less or close to equal then what most people pay for just a Traditional Service only, especially when you add in the fees, for example, just saw that DirecTV’s price for just the Entertainment Package is going up to $97 before fees.

Also pay for Prime, but that is for the shipping, the video is a bonus, even if they did not offer video, I would still have it.

eddie willers can you please read post #4 & 9? Can you help me?
Sorry, but I never use the apps on my Hopper. I have a separate 4K Firestick where I go to watch YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime. The post should have been clearer. I don't know if this is a hardware, software or legal reason that the Prime app on the Hopper does not get the OK to play through the Hopper. Maybe someone else can tell us why/how?

Thanks eddie willers. I will call DISH. At least everything for HBO Max shows up but when you try to play a program you get HBO restricts thru this device statement.

I think it is pretty simple really. DISH does not have a contract with HBO or HBOMax. AT&T, which owns HBO, does not want you to watch any HBO programming on your DISH receivers even if you are paying for it via Amazon. So, it is clear to me that HBO is being stripped from Amazon Prime programming on DISH equipment. The issue is with HBO not DISH. I've said it before, I'll say it again, just use a streamer to access things like Amazon Prime and Netflix even though you see those apps on your DISH receivers it will make your life so much simpler....

Yep, you are correct Bobby. DISH told me to call Amazon about the issue and Amazon told me to call HBO. Haven't called HBO yet. It is sad in the Hopper you can go all the way to the HBO program and select it then hit the dead end. Amazon should just not show HBO when you select Prime Video app in the Hopper. HBO works great on our Firestick and the Web in our laptops.

The only way to see HBO Max is via the app. That is true on every device and every service that offers it. There is NO linear version of HBO Max.

For me, the funny thing is that the app worked for me with HBO a few days ago. I even went to the trouble of showing my wife yet another way to access HBO. And now, no bueno. Maybe if eddie willers calls, he can get some movement on this.
I think that must have been a glitch that somehow slipped through undetected. Then, as soon as this thread got posted, HBO saw it and was like "Hell no! Shut that down!" So, the glitch immediately got fixed after that. Sorry for causing your HBO access through the Hopper 3 to get taken away, everybody. :sorry
