Since my OLEd does not play well with HDR, I got one of these boys coming which will allow me

4k60-420 12-bit BT.2020 All Sound

with HDR metadata extracted. My display should then see 4k/24 SDR BT2020 10 bit from UHD sources so I lose HDR and still get WCG. The FP guys love em since the JVC's dont do HDR well, so I bit the bullet. Will post how it goes, going to put a 3 foot cable from the Panny to the Integral, and then another 3 foot from the Integral to the preamp.

I thought that if the TV couldn't handle it, the source device wouldn't send it and it wouldn't need to be "stripped". Does the LG lie about its capabilities?

My display accepts HDR fine, I don't like the calibration result with HDR active. The grayscale cannot be tweaked, and the gamma just does not look good since the display is in torch mode. If I send it 4k/24 SDR it stays out of HDR and uses my properly cal'd mode. The color tracking with WCG isnt bad, it is my displays HDR mode. Many of the 15 and 16 displays don't cal well for HDR, which is why there are a wide range of comments about PQ and problems. JVC's handle WCG well but their HDR mode sucks accuracy wise, which is why this devices works well for them too.

I wasn't aware that HDR 10 was such a mess. That's what I get for assuming that standards exist to foster consistency.

Its like the launch of 3D, most displays did not have proper calibration control in 3D mode for a couple of generations. Many of the 2015 models lock you out of most adjustments when in HDR mode. Would be fine if they were actually accurate in HDR mode.

Cross post from the Panny thread. I really like UHD, but as cool as the HDR is, I see issues with it (gamma causes vertical jail bars in some dark scenes, grayscale is totally wonky) and found out about the HD Fury. With the Panny player, and the HD Fury set to Custom 10 (4K/60 max 444 BT2020) it strips HDR, so instead of turning off HDR in the Panny and getting its SDR downconversion that strips WCG/10bit as well, you keep the 10 bit and lose HDR.

So Panny SDR without Integral = 4k/24 SDR BT709 8 bit
With Integral - 4k/24 SDR BT2020 10 bit

Did some testing on Allegiant where I saw issues in the dark scenes, it fixed that and flesh tones look a lot better too with my calibrating settings intact. Here are some pics in case anyone is interested. I have all my sources running into my preamp, an hdmi out to the Integral, and then an hdmi from it to the LG. The phone app that bluetooths to the Integral ROCKS.
