HDTV screen question

I have 2 hdtv's and 2 dish network receivers. My problem seems to be that every time I want to watch t.v. it seems that the screen settings I made before are now different (16x9, 4x3 etc...) as I get a square picture with black along the sides. I then go to the setup menu and select the screen I want and all is fine. Is there a way to save these settings by default. It asks me do you want to save when I go into the setup menu and I say yes but still no luck. Also what is the setting most people use here 4X3(1), 4x3(2) and 16x9.

Also remember if you watch any SD, is will come up 4:3 regardless of your HD setup at 16:9. You would have to use the * button to stretch it to wide screen (yuck).

I have been having a similar problem intermittently. When I turn the tv on or play a dvr event the picture is boxed in. After tapping the format button it returns to how it's supposed to be set.
