HOPPER 3 UPGRADES

The point is, you can only have ONE Hopper 3 on your account currently. When you hook up a hopper 3, you will want to hook up a solo hub only, NOT a duo hub. Also the cable, which needs to be a 3ghz rg6 cable all the way from then HYBRID lnbf to the Hopper also needs to be hooked up to port 1 on the lnbf. NOTHING should be hooked up to port 2, it will not work currently because of the requirements for the Hopper 3. Also, any unused CLIENT ports on the solo hub need to be terminated. If you want the reason these ports need to be terminated, ask the Dish Network ENGINEERS that design all this.

If you check the Hybrid specs you'll see that 2.2GHz wire is all that's required. And that's from the Dish ENGINEERS directly. Yes, we all use 3GHz wire for all Dish installs but it's not required for the Hybrid. More disinfo from Utah?

Oh, and the pint of this was Patrick asked if he could use his existing duo hub with an H3 and whether he should terminate the unused ports. That was the point.

Q: Does this new configuration still require 3 GHz rated cable?
A: Yes, all Hopper family receivers (Hopper, Hopper w/ Sling, Hopper 3) require the installation of 3 GHz rated cable from the LNBF (connected to Port 1) through the hub and to the Hopper.

this is directly form corporate. sooo.....

In short
Nodes and DPP lnbs are Powered by the receivers.
All unused node ports need to be terminated.
Same with splitters.
Powerpass on splitters means nothing.

Hybrid LNB and Hubs are also powered by Hoppers.
Again unused Hub ports need to be Terminated.

A Power pass on a Splitter is for example, a Directv Swm LNB require an External Power Inserter.

That means if you for some reason you need to get power to the LNB, you can use that port on the Splitter if needed.
Maybe your Coax from the swm LNB comes in a room with no receptacle, but all your coax feeds are located there.
You can drop your 8 way there, then run a Coax from another room where the PI can be Plugged in, Back to the room where your 8 way is using power pass port "RED Port" at your 8 way splitter.
Bam now the Lnb is powered.

It's just a Power pass.

Next time I talk to Vivek I'll tell him you said he's wrong.

That's it. Good night and good bye.

Ok what about the un-used open ports on the lnb with 1 receiver. Voltage present?
No you don't need to terminate LNBS
Lnb is basically the end of your system.
Your hoppers get their info from the Nodes.
Think of the Nodes/Hubs as a POE filter.
Your Hoppers don't know what's going on past the Nodes.
They only know when you run a check switch.

Other wise your Moca signals would be terrible outside of the nodes.

Even when we had the Tivos, if that POE filter wasn't in place, Your neighbors could actually be in your whole home system if they had Tivo.
It's a long shot, But it could happen. Mostly distortion and other errors would occur.
