How Do You Get In Touch With Whoever Writes Software For The Receivers?

I have a VIP 211 with the USB activated and an external HD so it is in essence a DVR now. But there is no search function, only scroll by catagory and Dish Remote is not available for it even though it has internet access capability. I would like that included in the next software update. One or the other. Having DVR capability and no way to search the guide is like having an Indy car in a community with a 25 mph speed limit. Is there a way to contact the engineers? I tried customer support and there is no way to input anything to engineering. Same thing with technical support.

It would be nice if they could also fix it so you can delete protected events that are on EDDs. That is also on my wish list.

Indeed the lack of search is quite an omission. Glad I have all DVRs in my household. ;)

I'm also not surprised that CSRs and TSRs have no way of getting a suggestion to engineering. The engineers are being protected from the unwashed masses such as you and I. They have no time to consider new features because they're too busy quashing 922 bugs these days. :p Do 922's have EHD capability yet?

It would be nice if Dish had a suggestions box somewhere. Maybe Scott can add one to DISH Network Support Forum, but then how would he get anybody from Dish to read it?

Is a 211 different than a 211k? I have a 211k with a USB HDD drive hooked to it and it has the search function, just bring up the guide and press the "*" button. I always thought the 211 and 211k had basically the same functions. Can't you unprotect the event then delete it?

The EKB has the source code I believe. Download it, write the code to perform the actions/features you want, and then send the code to Charlie at the CEO e-mail address. Piece-O-Cake! He can forward it to the engineers! (:

Also make it so when I have something set to record on a Dish channel and one to record on an OTA channel at the same time that it can actually perform this task without constantly messing up the OTA recording!!

I replied the same way on the poster's other thread on the same subject. On my 211k the search works fine.

Again I'm using a 211k but I can record a satellite channel and an ota channel just fine. Do it literally every day.

Asking the engineers to update the 211's software could be treading on dangerous grounds. Along with the update could come a DVR fee...It would a great way for Dish to defend a fee on the 211...just sayin'

Ghpr13:(

Imagine if they honored all user requests to be included "in the next update" !!! Well, they could, but it might be 5 years before the next update gets released then !

As for users contacting them, imagine all the bullsh*t requests they'd have to sort through. Everyone thinks their request is "important" too.

beta testers have reported bugs and have been ignored:(

the product goes on to launch with known issues:(

Its not just satellite tv its lots of stuff, schedules lead the way:(

not in my experience but experiences do vary. quite often, trouble isn't spotted until the equipment is released into the wild.

My opinion there is that too many beta testers are afraid of being critical or reporting too much and worry that they'll be removed from the test group.

I had a 211 with EHD and the search function (*) worked fine as did recording one Sat and one OTA channel, including watching a prerecorded program, although remote response was slow.

S~

Well E had a new box launch with many bugs the beta testers had reported, and wasnt fixed....

I myself beta tested prottype laminators that didnt work:( I said dont ship they dont work.

Marketing overuled common sense saying we have a schedule to keep:(

Years later and millions of lost dollars they landfilled all the machines, all the tooling, and ate the cost of getting the junk machines out of the field.

RCA 2 way radios did the same thing years ago.........
