Either in the System info screen will show the manufacture as a 200 or behind the trap door for the access card will list it.

Open the access card door - the submodel number is the manufacturer number, the number after the dash.

Each series uses different software. Different internal boards, sometimes very different.

Always check your model & manufacturer before downloading, they don't update them all every time.

Let me ask you guys a question. My Direct install is tomorrow. I will be getting the HR-21. Would you take a chance with doing the CE as soon as tomorrow? I know Masterdeals has told me it may a take a few months for the national rollout of the software. I would like the VOD and the skip 30 second button. Would anyone chance it just after a install?

Sure, why not. If you have any problems just do another forced download outside of a CE window and you're back to the current national release. Just remember though DO NOT call D* about any problems with a CE release, that's a big no no, just log the problem here for assistance.

Thanks rad. If I do need to go back to the national release, do I use the same 0,2,4,6,8 code and the same steps? Just do this outside the CE window.

Yep, exactly the same, just don't do it during the CE window and you're back on the national level and then can call D* for any problems.

Just forced download and yes screen looks different and new things are added, but when I go to ondemand from main menu it won't allow me to select it it just makes a noise when I press button. I don't even get screen that says coming soon. Any ideas?

yeah, no on demand yet on HR-21 with the new CE. No coming soon screen, just a thud when you try and activate it.

Read on another site that if you go to on-line programming setting and click check mark it will enable vod. Can't seem to find it on menu. Anyone have any luck?

did the upgrade but when it went to acquiring sat info , step 2 it wont' go past 11% and now it's frozen

On Demand for the HR21-700 is in the CE (and the last two, as well) but it hasn't been authorized for most accounts yet. I think those who also have a HR20 with DOD get it because the account has been flagged.

When they rolled the HR20s for VOD, the systems at D* saw what version of software if you have it hooked to the network you were running and then turned the account on for VOD.

The process was a few days to a few weeks. You would see a line on your recent activity that once said New Service, but now says Directv on Demand. That is how you know when you are good to go!

I would assume the HR21s will go thorugh the same process.

I've had a HR21-200 for a few months now (was part of the early test group) and it was always network connected. After the CE download last night, the first CE that had DoD in it, it showed up right away but none of the channels had been populated yet with program info. This AM the channels now have content and downloads working fine.

Had to do RBR and it came back. DOD looks active but excet for a few cartoons nothing else came up (movies, shows, etc). it does say "Beta" though for the DOD. Also lots of DOD channels on the 1000 range that also say Beta. Guess I need to get me a wireless router!
