Yup, lets cross fingers and hope that everything goes ok on this...

Basically as you guys know Voom just had a price hike, and word is that if you change your channels you would go into the new pricing structure, Well.. I currently have:

Basic service + 1 premium channel (PlayboyHD)

Well I been wanting to change the 1 premium I have to HBO instead, but I didnt want to get this new $19.95 (per premium) fee.. I want to keep the $14.95.

The reson I didnt make any changes before this was that my billing had been screwed and I didnt want to risk any more billing issues, so this whole price hike really caught me off guard (thanks for the notice Voom)

so I called to find out if it was possible, turns out that it's possible to make changes to your account and still preserve the old pricing if you enquire about it, I was told by CSR & their supervisor that I would retain my old $14.95 pricing for changing premiums, I was rather inquisitive about it too. So i figured I'd give it a shot, now I have:

Basic service + 1 premium channel (HBO)

My account pricing was preserved, no change whatsoever.... Be sure they note it in your account & hurry up, they said its only for a couple of days that is possible, so if you are willing to try, now its the time...

anyway, just a heads up for those willing to gieve it a shot. (for whats worth I called back again and they say that my pricing was still the same indeed + the website shows the changes I've made and it still retained the old pricing) :D

I want to get rid of my second Voom STB, and save $15 a month. I hope they don't try changing the rate for my VaVaVoom package for that. Will they inform you right on the phone that your rates will change? Or can they just do it?

$20 for a premium? No cable/sat co. I know charges that much for a premium (non porn) pkg. D* charges $12 a premium and $1 less for each additional. No way the additional west coast HD feed is worth 67-100% more!!

Adding USA and fox sports for some other states ain't doing it for me either :(

Keep in mind, though, that none of these other providers offer 3 HD channels per premium pack...

Ilya makes a great point. As the premiere provider of HD programming Voom is in the position to charge more than their competitors.

This is on thing about VOom that just doesn't make sense... for what you getting you can pay $15 to a cable company and get HBO/Cinemax together for another $5 you can get their HD channels (which doesn't always include west feeds in HD)... so for $20 you can get HBO and Cinemax together with HD, and more of their SD premium channels (who cares) than Voom offers.

I'm glad current subs aren't affected I'll keep my Va-va-voom just like it is for now then, however it seems like they need to keep more money flowing in, but this may not be the way to do it. They could save lots of money by making sure their installers aren't dumbfarts with tools. They could also up the bandwidth on their channels after October and start a new "the best quality HD anywhere" marketing campaign and who would be able to argue?

Also there are many people I still talk to who have heard of a company called "ZOom" but they don't know much about it other than they have a lot of "HD". They need more exposure, people with HDTVs that use it for nothing other than watching DVDs (not even a HDTV OTA antenna!) need a slap in the face.

Also what 3 HD channels per premium pack? HBO offers 2, Cinemax offers 2, Showtime is also 2? Is TMC bundled with Showtime or Encore? Only the Encore pack offers 3 HD that I know of.

What any one person thinks about Voom's pricing structure is irrelevant (including myself). I say this because it's the voice of the market that will determine Voom's long term pricing structure.

I have no problem whatsoever with Voom charging as much as the market will bear. Voom is a for profit entity...this isn't the Salvation Army we are talking about folks. If consumers perceive value in the service Voom provides and are willing to pay $20/premium channel...then Voom would be stupid NOT to charge that price.

However, if consumers feel that $20 is too steep, or that the other Voom issues do not warrant the suggested premium price structure then Voom's premium channel revenues will suffer. That's the inherent beauty of market economics.

I'm sure there are people out there who feel it is ridiculous to spend $2 - $3,000 on a TV. But there are plenty of forum members who have done just that. Point being, simply because the pricing structure of any given good/service is above your individual tolerance does not make it "wrong".

My guess, this is just a marketing experiment by VOOM with several goals:
1. To see if people are ready to pay the higher price.
2. To prove (to creditors and investors) that the "Full" price really exists and there are at least some people willing to pay it.
3. To show potential customers that future promotions should be taken seriously.

I am pretty sure we will see new promotions very soon...

Thank you for posting. Economics 101: Supply/Demand.

Voom

the other night during the fight i walked back into the room to see my sister slap her husband in the back of the head and say to him "why doesnt my $4000.00 TV look that good, You got ripped off"... lmfao. I calmly explained to my sis its the quality of signal u put into it. your 1080i HDTV will do the same. You need VOOM. during the fight i set out a 2 wifi laptops so my quests could surf and what not, 2 of my quest's even signed up for voom, My brother in law called me at lunch time to tell me he finally got around to callin voom to setup and NOW ITS $200.00 to F@%#ing setup...lol... asked if i could call and get him a free install.....lol... I told him it was better than the $750.00 they wanted for the equipment when they launched.

It's like PPV, when Dish offered it at $2.99, I purchased about 4/month, when they went to $3.99 I never ordered another one. What's the use, their PQ stinks, they are rarely in OAR or DD 5.1 and no extras. I can rent the DVD for $2.99 and keep it for a week, so what's the use? Oh, I know, it's for the fat ass lazy couch potato that's too lazy to walk into the store to rent a DVD.

If Voom charges $20 for an add on pack, they will never see one on my bill, screw em.

You know I think that the price increases may not be over. If you read the fine print on the VOOM site it is telling:

"VOOM Package
$49.90 per month
Includes 21 VOOM Exclusive HD channels, more than 50 of cable's most watched channels, plus 18 music channels. For a limited time at no extra charge, also includes HD MarqueePack (featuring Bravo HD+, TNT in HD and Discovery HD Theater) and the VOOM SportsPack (featuring ESPN HD, Fox Sports World, The Tennis Channel, The Golf Channel and Fuel)."

i been a subscriber for a month now i was going to switch to comcast but i decided to get voom. But i wanted to downgrade from va va voom package to the basic but they are charging me the new $50 price now. I thougt current subsribers wouldnt be affected?

Whatever your opinion on this happens to be.....where else can you get 40 channels of HD for $79.95?? DirecTV charges $10.95 for their package of 4 HD channels (in addition to the basic charge) then another $12 per premium package and then another charge for Sports Packages and so on....... It ads up and you still only have 6 or 8 HD channels TOTAL!! I just checked. VOOM has 16 sports channels and 3 are in HD!

That's $2/channel. Dish's HD Pack has 5 HD channels for $9.95/month, same price, so where's the savings? Don't count the SD, I don't watch them. At least Dish is not YET overcompressing their HD, but it looks like they may be soon by cramming 3 HD channels/transponder.
