Indianapolis HD locals

I called dish in regard to local hd for Indy and they said by the first of the year. Also I RV and lost my distant feeds due to E's infringement on the law. Could they possibly do a software upgrade to allow your locals to be picked up when out of your area? Probably could but against the law.

Indy HD locals are not a priority for E*. Indianapolis is one of the best cities in the U.S. for OTA HD. I think they will tell you guys who can't receive solid OTA signals anything to get you off their backs. They have a full plate already(as if you didn't know).

That's great for Indy, but I live in Columbus! I've tried an antenna in the attic, but that got me the bible station. I'll have to buy a huge VHF/UHF (I thought just UHF before, but found out channel 8 is VHF) directional antenna, get an amp, and pay to have someone install it since I don't even know anyone that has a high enough ladder to get to the top of my roof.

I had been told that Indy was going to be here summer 2006 BY DISH, so I got Dish in the spring. I had no expectation of missing football in HD, and now I'll have to pay more to get it.

Yeah, that sucks Aqualung. I know Dish keeps stringing you guys along.......I will be truly shocked if Indy locals ever show up. I honestly hope I'm wrong for people in your situation.

Hey Aqua..... I live in Columbus too. Roof top is the only way you'll get Indy. Channel 23 is up in Marion and I never pick it up. Right now I have a Channel Master 4228 (UHF 4 bay). It picks up everything else pretty good, even chanel 8 (9 digital). But, the signal breaks up a lot at times on 8. But, if you live in the North side of Columbus, that might work for you with no trouble.

Stinks about Indy HD on dish. That's one reason I went with them also. The reps told me indy hd's would be just around the corner.

The only reason I paid extra and signed an 18 month contract with Dish this past spring on the 922 receiver is because they were promising HD Indy Locals in 2006. Now that Direct has delivered and Dish has not I'm wondering if there is a way to get out of the contract without penalty. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Before someone suggests OTA, it would require a large tower and a 15ft antenna to get Indy from my house (near Spencer) so unless I want spend $400 on an eyesore and get a divorce it's not really an option.

Unless you got it in writing they would launch in 2006, I'd say your stuck.... like me.

$400 for the antenna set up. That's if your not putting up a tower. Then your $400 becomes around $1k.

I live in Lafayette and have an Antenna that goes for around $130 (A Winegard) and I pull in FOX/ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS in HD from Indy.

Ok everyone I have been E-mailing fool! I asked about more locals in HD like Oklahoma City and others. Plus asked about what other HD Channels could we see in the next couple months so forth. This is what I got back.

"Thanks for your inquiry. The cities/locals scheduled in 2006 to convert to HD are Indianapolis IN., Raleigh NC., and Pittsburg PA. You’ll see more locals added in HD between the 1st quarter of 2007. Dish will also supply numerous RSN’s (Regional Sports Networks) in HD at that time as well. Again, thanks for your time and concerns."

So sounds like the last 3 for this year should be coming but take it for what it says. I think we might know for sure in the next couple of months and maybe something will be brought up on the next Charlie Chat. If I hear more will let my firends here on SatelliteGuys know. :)

Thanks for the update Poke! So you got that response on 12-09-2006? They are still saying with three weeks left that those three are going to be HD this year?

Watching the Charlie Chat last night I was waiting for Charlie or Jim to say Indianapolis hd locals added. What a low blow to hear Indianapolis has been passed up by several other cities. We were promised hd locals by Echostar last summer and lied to time and time again. I am too far for an antenna and will be out after 10 years with Dish as soon as my 622 contract is up!

Well I think they will be up sometime. But will let everyone know if I hear anything.

Pistol,

I'm not sure where you're at, but I don't know of anywhere in the Indianapolis DMA that is "too far" for OTA. I'm in Columbus, and that is pretty far, but my pain is that it is "too expensive", not too far. It sounds like with enough $$$ in install, antenna, and amp almost everyone can get it OTA.

I am frustrated too, though. I was told the same things, and not seeing it uplinked anywhere has me worried. Some have posted on here that they emailed the stations, and the stations said Dish stoped talking about HD with them. Then when it was not mentioned AT ALL on the chat...

I hope the email Poke got was correct, and I'm not going to give up this year. However, after that, I'm going to look at my options again. They have said 2006 for all of 2006. 2007 doesn't cut it unless they have a firm date backed up by uplinked channels.

Got this yesterday from DISH:

Thanks for the email. I have received word from our programming department that we do not have a scheduled date for the launch of the Indianapolis locals in HD. I realize that this may be frustrating for you. I can assure you that we are doing everything possible to add as many HD stations including local markets to our programming line up.

I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Aqualung 812; Columbus is a lot closer than we are. We are located 40 minutes south of Bloomington near Mitchell Indiana, too far from Indy or Louisville for OTA without a major expense. I am waiting to see what happens as my 622 contract months roll by wishing and hoping for a HD solution soon. The thing that really bothers me is the fact that Dish used hd locals in Indy coming soon as bait before switching to other cities. I am beginning to see a pattern of dishonesty that probably is coming from the top at Dish. He who laughs last.......

I purchased a Terk antenna and can now get 14 high def channels including subs in Indy, so I could care less. It's the principle of the whole thing that gets me. I agree Dish has lied about this for whatever reason only known to them and they aren't saying. They just don't care unless they start to lose customers. I am willing to bet they are looking for a buyout from Direct. However, with AT&T being a major player with Dish I guess AT&T could buy them out too. I guess the stockholders are happy with the bozos who are running the company right now. No way would I ever buy Dish stock.

Pistol,

Louisville is closer to Mitchel than Indy is to Columbus, around 42 miles for you.

Go to www.anteannaweb.org and check for yourself. Put in a 100ft antenna height to show what it would look like with an amp above your roof.

You CAN do OTA. However, you and I agree that spending extra $$$ for something we already pay Dish for is silly.

It's a minor win but still helps

I tried to call into the Charlie chat on the 11th to ask about Indianapolis HD locals but of course they said the lines were full. After bitching my way through 3 people and getting to the cancellation department they gave me an offer I can live with. They wouldn't come right out and confirm but eluded that Dish is not in negotiations with the Indianapolis stations. I kept brining up that Charlie had publicly stated IN HD locals would be up this past summer then moved back and now off the table for the near future. They dropped my plan to the lowest possible plan of America's top 60 at $29/mo plus the 922 monthly contract I have adding $6 and gave me a $16 per month credit for the next 10 months thereby making my bill $19 a month. I figured with that savings I'll pay for the large antenna I'm going to need to pick them up and will still have my 922 receiver. My alternative is to add DirecTV because they do have HD locals but then I couldn't use my HD Dvr on the locals. Hope this info can help anyone else out in a similar situation.
