I installed the beta profile for iOS 12 on my iPhone 8 plus. On beta 2 right now. Strikes me as another minor set of upgrades. it does seem zippy. And I am anxious for Google Maps and Waze to work on Car Play -- but that seems to be more dependent on updated apps from Google.

The new measurement app is very cool. My wife needed me to measure the size of the area where our dog water bowl is, so she can buy a rubber matt, so the floor doesn't get ruined, and it worked like a charm. A potentially useful, albeit strange addition to the iPhone toolbox.

I have been run it on my 7+ since it became available to developers.

Still feels like iOS 11 to me.

I installed it on my sons 6s so I could put screentime on it and have it turn off YouTube and web browsing as he would just stay up all night using it.

Worked good until the other day when I went in his room at 2:30 am and he was watching g YouTube. I told him to tell me how he was using it or I would t give him his phone back. He told me when screentime kicks in and turns his apps if he goes into settings then changes the time to a non screentime time.

Little brat!

LOL . That's awesome!

I agree, mostly iOS 11 right now, except for conIsolidated notifications.

I know Google Maps probably won't come on Car Play until iOS 12 goes live.

I’m looking forward to the 3rd party nav apps in CarPlay now that we have a vehicle that has it.

Have no problem sending to iOS 11 users. They just moved the icon for attaching images.

It is now the icon on the bottom left as shown below.

No, I did that, using the icon. But it shows up as a ? on my son's phone. An iPhone 7 should have no problems reading HEIC or is that the problem? Never was a problem before.

I'm on iOS 12 Beta 4 (public). Been on the beta for awhile with no issues so far and one thing that is in it that I really like. Books has really been improved a lot, much better UI and handling of book management.

I understand that iOS12 will have WAZE app for Car Play. I was hoping to see a weather radar map overlay in Car Play. Don't see anything like that yet. I have it in my Ford Escape with Sirius Travel Link subscription. Really miss it in my Honda.

Has any beta tester seen Waze and is it a full function waze or just Google maps addition for traffic? How is the social media feature implemented if you have it?

We won't see it until after iOS 12 goes live, and then Waze and G Maps are updated for it.

Hmmm, I can see this costing me money. Either the unsupported upgrade to SYNC 3 in my 2014 Escape or by buying a new vehicle with CarPlay & Android Auto support built-in.

Do they need to update the maps or does Apple just need to stop blocking the app when using CarPlay?

I don't think they need to update the maps, just enable car play in THEIR app. This isn't out of the ordinary, when prior iOS releases came out with additional support for third party apps, those apps never appeared until after iOS went live. I expect we will see Waze and GMaps very soon.

LOL - You are doomed. :D Thankfully my Chevy Cruze and my wife's Subaru Outback both support Carplay.

I looked at this upgrade and it is a ridiculous waste of money for car play. Car Play as it is today is a waste and I never use it on my Honda Accord. If they add waze and maybe a weather radar app I would probably begin using it. But even with those two I would never spend $1499 for the kit for a 2014 Escape. Spend that for a new iphone Xs Max and a car holder until you are ready for a new Tesla Model Y. :)

As for the modification difficulty, it is pretty easy. I already modified my LCD in my Escape for "Lock Pick" which allows you to enter addresses and do other locked out stuff while the vehicle is moving. This is a great feature that we use when both my wife and I are traveling. The passenger has full use of the screen and nothing is grayed out. I added that about a month after buying the Escape.

I heard it was Apple that makes the call (not so hard to believe). An article that I read (and can't currently find) suggests that CarPlay apps aren't any different than regular apps other than Apple has decided which ones CarPlay will work with as part of their app acceptance policy.

Sure, but there is always a software update on an app when something like this happens.

iOS 12 dropped last night, no more beta. We will see what happens with g maps and wake.
