So I added the iPad to my arsenal (equals pissed wife for spending $600) but anyways, I'm going on vacation in June and was wondering do I need anything special to receive my programming in Florida? I'll be using the condos Internet connection and my receivers are all connected. Is this possible? Yes, being a tech I should know this but I never really had one to play with until now :D

You need to download the Ipad app, and what that allows you to do is live stream tv ONLY in your home network, or you can do the Directv everywhere, that offers live streaming of Select few channels live stream outside the home network.

  • DVR Scheduler:
    • When away from home, use the iPad to set your DVR to record programs, movies, and DIRECTV Cinema.
    • While at home, use the iPad to order DIRECTV Cinema.
      • Decide which and how many receivers for the movie to play on.
      • No need for a phone line connected to the receiver.
  • Remote Control Functions (in-home)
  • Use the app as your remote control.
  • Change the channel, record programming, trickplay (fast-forward, rewind, etc.), turn the receiver ON/OFF.
    • iPad can only control HD / HD-DVRs when connected to the home's broadband internet network.
    • The iPad cannot use the app to control the TV or other devices, including adjusting volume/mute or changing the TV's format/resolution.
  • Live TV Streaming
    • Watch currently on-air shows on the iPad.
    • Must be connected to the home's broadband internet network.
  • DIRECTV Everywhere (On Demand and DIRECTV Cinema Streaming)
  • Available wherever there's an internet connection.
  • On Demand: The channel must be included in the customer's TV package subscription.
  • Share programs watch with friends on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Check in to Miso and GetGlue on the program currently being watched.
  • Stay connected with friends and fans that share the same interests on movies, shows, sports and events.
  • Search for programming on the iPad or enter search for display on the TV.
  • You Might Like: Programming that is similar to what the viewer is currently playing.
  • Photos: Includes images of the program, if available.
  • Cast & Crew: Filmography, awards and upcoming appearances of the programs stars.
  • Parental Info: Descriptions from Common Sense Media providing details on content ratings.
  • View and delete programs from all internet-connected HD-DVRs within the home.
  • See what the receiver in the house is currently playing.
  • Ability to change the channel if connected to the home's wireless network.
  • Advanced browsing section to list all available movies on DIRECTV displayed in filterable categories.
  • Includes PPV, premium channels, standard channels and upcoming titles in a graphical view with movie posters (if available).
  • Set favorites (My Teams).
  • Selecting a game gives the user the ability to record (or tune to the game if connected to the home's wireless network).
  • Streaming
  • Social Networking
  • Menus, Guide and extended program info:
  • Playlist
  • Parental Viewing
  • Movie Central
  • ScoreGuide
[h=5]Benefits[/h]
  • There are no additional setup costs. The DIRECTV App is free and available through iTunes.
  • Unlike TV apps that take up space on the TV screen, this app runs on your tablet not interrupting TV Viewing.
  • It has a separate UI (User Interface) from your receiver for multitasking.
  • With the Sports On Now module, it's easier to find the games you want, even without knowing what channel or when they're on.
  • DIRECTV Cinema can be ordered without a phone line or internet connection to a receiver (for watching on the set-top box).
    • No extra phone or IVR transaction fees.
  • Customers can watch TV shows and movies from select networks, and order/watch DIRECTV Cinema movies — all on the iPad — while inside or out of the home.
  • Take TV shows from room to room.
  • Save recording space on the DVR.
[h=5]Restrictions[/h]The app cannot:

  • Control the TV or other devices, raise or lower volume, mute, change resolutions/formats, turn the TV set on/off.
  • Control the receiver when outside of the home.
    • Recordings can still be scheduled using the DVR Scheduler feature.
  • Stream live (on-air) programming when not connected to the same broadband network as the receiver.
[h=2]Adjust Channel View[/h]

  2. Tap Show All Channels to allow all streamable channels to appear in the Live TV Streaming channel list.

[h=2]FAQ[/h][h=2]Top Questions[/h]What does Wi-Fi mean?Wi-Fi is a commonly used term to describe a wireless internet signal.

What is 3G/ 4G / xG? Is it on my home Wi-Fi network?3G / 4G / xG stands for 3rd / 4th / x Generation of mobile telecommunications standards. To be deemed "3G" the mobile broadband network of a telecom company must:
  • Be able to offer connection speeds up to 3rd generation standards or faster from their cell towers.
  • Offer devices or phones capable of processing at those speeds.
Since 3G and higher are only sets of standard speeds for telecom companies:
  • If you're on your cell phone service provider's "3G network," you aren't on your home network.
  • You're not connected to your home network router; you're connected to your mobile provider's network cell towers.
To connect to your home Wi-Fi network:
  • You must be within Wi-Fi range of your home wireless router and your mobile device and receiver must both connect to that home wireless router.
  • Not your mobile provider's towers.

I knew all this already lol I need to did a way to stream locals. Sorry, guess I should've been more clear in my post :)

As for the android I don't know, I haven't heard anything. I'm still fairly new on the side of "remote viewing"

Locals are not part of the DirecTV Everywhere yet, most likely due to FCC regulations. It is hard to determine the zip code of a mobile device and decide if it is in the zip code that locals are coming from.
But DirecTV everywhere should be expanding its channel line up soon.

OSD, remember I'm a tech. I know this information already, I'm asking if there is any form of an adaptor I can get so I can view them. At this point in aware that the "directv everywhere" is still very limited. I'm looking for something like a sling box that will work. I'm not wanting all my channels, just 1 of the locals for news since all the apps I have for my iPhone/iPad are very limited in the news

a vulkano is a modestly priced alternative to the sling. works great with my ipad. i just came from a directv dealer conference and right now this is the only option you have.

Thanks! I'll look in to it

55' Sony Bravia, 42' Sony Bravia, 40' Insignia , HR-24 (x2), HR22, SWM16, PS3, iPad (3rd generation), Yamaha RX-V367, Harmony One

I'm looking for a solution to watch some TV (such as Thursday games on NFL Ntwk, or games on MLB Ntwk, or the regularly scheduled NBA games on TNT like the playoffs) on my iPad. I do have a Vulkano box set up which works well, but now I see DTV Everywhere says I can use the iPad on a 3G ntwk, or a wifi ntwk that's not my home ntwk (doesn't have my HR24 on the ntwk), as noted here DIRECTV Can I stream movies and shows over 3G/4G?.

But in other places DTV says one can only watch live TV (not OnDemand) when an iPad is on the same wifi ntwk as the receiver.

Which is true?

Thanks
