IR remote sender

has anyone tryed to use a ir remote sender for any of the newer directv recievers... my uncle has an d11 and a h20 that are in a closet in a different room from the tvs ive tryed 2 different brands of wired senders but neither have worked i can get him a rf remote for the h20 but not for the d11 i was just wondering if any one has had any experience with this.. both of the senders i tryed use all the frequencys but i cant make them work. both of them operate all of the other componets just fine but nothing will work with the direct tv recievers

thats what we might end up having to use... i have those in my house but they dont seem to work as good as a wired one, but if its the only thing that works then thats what ill have to use.. thanks for the quick reply
