hi all- newby here-

i live about 7 miles outside of austin, tx, and i had the dish installed several month ago and bought an ota hd antenna but couldn't get hd channels. i see in todays paper that directtv says they're offering ALL the local channels in hd- so is now the time to dump the cable company and get directtv?

if so- the ad in the paper says get either hd or digital recorder- i'm guessing both are available at a price but which way should i go? get the built in tuner and buy after-market dvr or???

thanks for any and all advice- and sorry in advance if any of my newby questions offend anyone.

Just so you are aware up front: "ALL the local channels" means DBS will provide the Big4 networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) via satellite retransmission as long as contracts are completed by the affiliates or their parent companies; and MAYBE your DMA will have the CW and/or MyTV independents. ALL other local digital channels will need a OTA attached to the DirecTV HD receiver.
