Please help my Mom is moving this weekend and about to cut off Dish Network she has a VIP 722 that we need to return to Dish, is there a reputable company that can backup her TV programming to DVD?

I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area

Only thing I could think of is to hook it up to a PC and capture the shows. You could activate the EHD and transfer them all to an external drive, but you would have to come back to Dish eventually to watch them.

And they would be unwatchable, an ehd from an old subscription wont work on a new one.

Don't think so, but what you can do is buy a dvd recorder and an s-video cable and hook that up to the analog output of the dvr. The s-video gives you a better picture quality than rca plugs. Then you would have to record the shows off the dvr. As someone else said, it's real time stream and no way to speed it up.

You can hook a DVD recorder up to it but that would take forever. That is your only option for getting them onto DVD legally. Recordings are not meant to be transfered to different types of media or to be copied in general.

No reputable company will do this for you. It would probably be cheaper, as Lord Vader suggests, to buy the content you can buy and capture the rest.

Capture to a DVD recorder or a computer are your options. Using a DVD recorder is going to net you standard definition renditions of the programs.

You needed to start much earlier than Thursday before the move.

Option "D"- Keep the dvr and pay the price they will charge you for not returning it. The recordings will play back, just disconnect before deactivating and never hook it up to dish again.

That would be about a $400.00 option. Real time to DVD recorder. End of story.

I didn't say it was a cheap option , but it is an option nonetheless.:D On a side note, what content could be worth this much trouble ? Maybe if you were a Saints fan and had the Super Bowl recorded.:)

You can buy Super Bowl Games...CHEAP.

You could move the Dish account to her new location and continue it. Even at a lower level of service, if need be.

This is of no use whatsoever on HDCP HD or anything encrypted. IOW, not what the OP wants. Basically, the content providers don't want people to make copies of their product.

You can record them on your Archos media player or Pocket Dish. If I am not mistaken I see an ad that shows you can tranfer programming from your DVR to your iphone, ipod or ipad.
When I had DISH I used to transfer my programming from DVR to Archos Media Player [DISH called is pocket dish].

DS,

The the Archos solution is not an HD solution.
