It would make more sense if it were planned like that, give the lady a car, make a huge thing about it, get the people to talk about the show.

Isn't that what you want from a model in the first place? Someone that lets her body take over, before her brain could stop it?
If you are obligated to give away a prize worth 10s of thousands of dollars, you are going to show it on TV to get the plug in for that car company to defray the cost. And if you are a smart marketing guru you will milk this error for all its worth!

As far as TV ratings are concerned in February 2015 TPiR was way up in ratings:
THE PRICE IS RIGHT 1 averaged 5.71 million viewers, up +7% from last year.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT 2 averaged 6.65 million viewers, a gain of +9% from the same week a year ago in both viewers and women 18-49 (1.2/08 from 1.1/07).

They probably will make more money in the increased ratings due to this story, than it cost them giving away a car.

It didn't "cost them" a single dime. Those prizes are all given to them by the sponsors to give away.
They definitely gained a lot of viewers due to this, so it's a total win/win situation.

It definitely would not make any sense to bury it. They have to give the car with the mistake or they will have to pay far more in attorney fees being sued if they tried to get out of it. So, they just turned lemons into lemonade by making it an "event" to watch and see.
Maybe the producers will advise Manuela to be careful from now on and not let her body take over. (her words not mine).

They will just deduct the cost of the car out of Manuela's pay checks one week at a time till she pays it off.
TPIR is recorded SORT OF live-to-tape. True live-to-tape means that what is shot in the initial taping is what is broadcast unaltered. The Price is Right production staff do "pick-up" shots and edit the show for time, and sometimes content. As stated before, the content edited does not affect the outcome of any of the games. There is a video floating around of TPiR behind the scenes that runs 62 minutes showing what is going on while the show is being taped. It shows them doing the pick-ups for silly things like a monitor not having the correct display up when the doors open, and editing a contestant's babblings before and after the actual bid on the showcase showdown.
Also the real time between showcase one and showcase two being revealed is usually 5 minutes. That studio is really small! It takes time to change out the prizes. And if showcase one wins, they have to reset the studio before they announce the winner. There is a built in commercial break there so the amount of time needed is usually real time and the contestants can't guess.
