It would be nice to get EPIX w/o having to get DISH Platinum

I have the DISH Platinum free for 3 months that started on Feb 1 meaning on May 1, I would have to start paying the $10/month in order to keep it, which I don't want to do. There's really nothing that I care to watch in the platinum channels except for Epix and Epix2 because they premiere new movies sometimes. I was willing to let go of the Epix channels after my Platinum offer expires because even though they are nice to have, it wasn't a huge deal for me to keep them; until yesterday when I read that Epix was going to show a heavyweight boxing match (http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/244962-epix-feature-live-boxing-march.html). The thing that bothers me is that if Epix is being considered as a premium channel trying to compete with HBO/Showtime, wouldn't it make sense for E* to put it in the AEP Package (which I subscribe to) so I can watch it without having to get DISH Platinum (or at least make it a la carte) I know Epix3 is in AEP, but it's in SD so I know I'm not gonna watch it. What do you guys think? Should E* make Epix and Epix2 available a la carte and in AEP (and possibly AT250) without having to get DISH Platinum to watch them?

I think some would argue that all the channels you get in addition to Epix and Epix2 are bonuses for the $10 a month.

Yup think of it this way, its cheaper then HBO or Showtime, plus you get a BUNCH of other channels for FREE, plus free online viewing of all the movies from EPIX as well. :)

$10 is not a bad deal at all. :D

No sympathy here. You get what you pay for...at a very reasonable price.

First I highly doubt it would be available as just one channel. In all likelihood, at a minimum it would be all three channels. I am also going to assume at some point Epix three will be in HD.

So that said, I would not expect that pack to be much or any less than what platinum costs. Platinum is actually a very nicely priced package. And if boxing becomes a draw for them, on top of their already decent popularity, there is no way they will let just one channel be A La Carte. (They meaning Epix, but also possibly Dish either)
In fact, I am going to take the exact opposite approach. I hope they Do not become separate from Platinum.... I would actually drop Showtime (I have HBO also and watch it all the time) before I would drop the platinum pack.

Which he already gets (Epix 3) So without knowing, I was correct I guess. All three for slightly less than the whole platinum pack, but in his case $7 for two channels versus $10 for many.

I agree Platinum is a better value, but if he doesn't watch any of the others, it's still $3 saved. Noone noted that it was offered a la carte, which is what was asked. Also, Platinum HD does NOT include the third Epix channel. That's only available a la carte, or with AEP.

I see everyone is disagreeing with me here so let me try to put it this way. To me, with EPIX showing premieres of new movies and now boxing matches, I think it's safe to say that it can be considered a premium channel. To me, it should be available in AEP, a la carte and DISH Platinum. I know most of you guys here seem to like that package but I think EPIX should be available as a separate option as well because there could be people out there who might not care for DISH Platinum. (Like Myself, admittedly)

It is, but I'm talking about Epix 1 and 2 since those are in HD.

Ok, lesson learned on my part, always do my own research.

So, if Epix 3, an SD channel is $7, and not all three of them, what do you think Epix 1 and 2 would cost, both being HD also? That's really my point on this. Getting Epix (more than just Epix 3) has got to cost as much or more than the whole Platinum pack. That is very typical of A La Carte pricing.

(The A La Carte section, because of how they have the graphics is a little confusing, and who would have thought a single SD channel would be $7? But apparently it is, I looked in my programming list, and to add "Epix 3" is $7)

I was talking about this statement. If you want EPIX 1 or 2, Platinum is the only way to get it, not a la carte.

I know that. What I'm saying is that since EPIX is considered a premium competing against the likes of HBO/Showtime/Starz, it should also be available in AEP too (along with being in Platinum) since E* puts all of the premiums in that package.

Yeah reading this made me realize that unless E* offers all 3 Epix Channels for $7 total, then a la carte is not a good idea.

But to agree with you..... and not to be overlooked, I am happy to see them try Boxing!

Good catch, dahenny. Yeah, that definitely is confusing the way it's worded on the a la carte page. It's not all three, its just the third one. I'd actually asked a rep about what it was a few weeks back and they said it was all three. Suprise, I got inaccurate info from a CSR.

Epix came out of a premium carrier (Showtime), but they operate as a kind of hybrid of that and a basic digital, and I'm sure their agreement with Dish reflects that. As to why Epix 3 is in AEP, my guess is because of it's titles (mostly back catalog, and all SD). Looks like none of the Platinum HD channels are available in AEP.

EPIX 1 and 2 are HD channels only. If it went into the AEP arena the SD subs, and yes there are a bunch of those, would be bitching about not being able to watch boxing, yada yada yada....
