Try to imitate a failure of one disk - remove SATA connector, then put it back and watch how HW will rebuild mirror; check time for that process.

Good to hear. One problem with watching from the EHD, though: When it's over, you bounce back to the directory of recorded programs, rather than have the option to delete (which is how it works on the DVR). Then you have to scroll thru an often long list to find the program and delete it.

Yeah, they def need to work on the EHD menu's, and hopefully they will.

I wish they would eliminate the entire built in hard drive approach and put in a user removable slot, similar to the ps3. I only ask for that, because there isn't enough bandwidth on the USB 2.0 slot to do the 4 stream recording (like the 722K).

The hard drive has been the source of failure on almost all of my DVR's... It would be nice to just go buy another hard drive instead of going through the RMA process... I'm sure it would be cheaper for Dish as well... Maybe one day.

Ok, just finished the final experiment.

I turned it off, opened it, and then pulled Drive A. Reconnected the power, selected a program, and played it. This lets me know Drive B has my stuff on it correctly. I then pulled Drive B in the same manner, and then reconnected the power. I was able to then go in and find my programming with only Drive A in, and play them.

This tells me that both drives are identical, even to where the 722k had no idea, so RAID-1 is working GREAT

Am I missing the RAID-1 did rebuild process ?

I did not check that, and it did not start anything once I plugged the drive back in. I just wanted to make sure it was mirroring correctly, which it is.

The WD literature states that once you replace a faulty caviar green drive with a fresh one, to not access the drive for 12 hours so it can rebuild. Maybe it will only initiate the rebuild if you plug in an unformatted blank drive.

I am not too worried about the rebuild process, as long as its mirroring correctly.

But as soon one disk stop working it must be marked as 'to begin rebuild as soon good disk inserted' and that when the process must start.
