3D gaming takes a lot: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7120/some-quick-gaming-numbers-at-4k-max-settings - 4 Titans in SLI can handle almost anything 4k

But, if you are just running the desktop/spreadsheets anything that can output 4k will do.

If you want to do 3D gaming just have to run 1920x1080 and let the monitor scale it up.

I don't do gaming... Just never got into it.

The most I would do is watch 4K video content on the monitor. Doesn't matter, I'm not upgrading any time soon, just bought a Dell WQHD (2560x1440) monitor for home. It's doing the job quite well for what I do.
