Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot...
Cameron hasn't even bothered to put out The Abyss or True Lies on BD yet, so I wouldn't hold your breath too long for Avatar in 4K. It's taken him over a decade to make a sequel to Avatar...what's he trying to do, beat Lucas' time for making the Star Wars prequels? Sheesh!

In Japan 8k is the standard
No it is not, NHK has one channel in 8K, NHK BS8K, which shows limited programming in 8K, but it is not the standard.

The others like Fuji TV, Tokyo Broadcasting System, TV Tokyo, Nippon TV, TV Asahi, etc, the majority they show is in HD and 4K.

NHK is using custom video and 22.2 audio so it probably isn't fair to call it "standard". NHK has only recently figured out how to deliver the content using means other than satellite downlinks (using coax cable networks). What NHK does is absolutely bleeding edge.

22.2 audio? Wow!
Apparently. If your home theater isn't rectangular, you probably need not apply.

What the TV people don't know about speaker placement is going to get us all in trouble.
