LInksys WRE54G repeater extender

Has anyone installed one of these recently?

I bought one ( version 1) years ago and could never get it to work so I returned it. I see many reviews on it, stating it works but takes forever to set up. Those reviews are 4 years old so I'm interested in whether Linksys got the install better streamlined?

I need to extend my wifi 802.11G with stronger signal out back, about 50 feet from the main wrt54G.

Guess not!

I am on a different model called a hawking Extender now and it works fine. A little trick to set up but the sped is adequate.
