Mark Wahlberg Will Star in Inflation-Adjusted 'The Six Billion Dollar Man'Mark Wahlberg this summer
By Anita Busch
EXCLUSIVE: Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg, the duo behind the critically acclaimed and box office success Lone Survivor, are re-teaming for the feature film version of The Six Billion Dollar Man with various writers circling the project for The Weinstein Co.’s Dimension Films label. (Yes, billion with a ‘b’). Berg will direct and Wahlberg is attached to star in the film about former astronaut Steve Austin who, after a horrific crash of an experimental plane, is saved by doctors when he is fitted with bionic replacements — both legs, his right arm and left eye. With super-human power, he becomes a force to be reckoned with for the government as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

Six Million Dollar Man
The story is based on the sci-fi book Cyborg by Martin Caidin which became a bestseller when it debuted in 1972 and was partially used for the popular 1970s television series The Six Million Dollar Man. The show had a large fan base and spawned a spinoff — The Bionic Woman. With such a well-known brand, the film will appeal to those now-older fans of the show in addition to introducing the character to a new generation of kids.Bob Weinstein is producing along with Berg and his producing partner Sarah Aubrey, Wahlberg’s production company Closest to the Hole Prods. and Wahlberg’s producing partner Stephen Levinson. Universal, which enjoyed the success of Lone Survivor, may also finance part of the picture.

Dimension plans to go before the cameras sometime next year for a 2016 release. Also on Wahlberg’s plate is the comedy Daddy’s Home opposite Will Ferrell for Paramount and Red Granite (which Paramount said will start production this year) as well as the anticipated Deepwater Horizon for Lionsgate/Participant and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, which is expected to start filming late spring/early summer. On the TV side, TNT and Paramount are adapting the conspiracy thriller Shooter as a series with Wahlberg and writer John Hlavin. The actor can next be seen in Paramount’s The Gambler which bows on December 19 in time for an Oscar-qualifying run. https://www.yahoo.com/movies/mark-wahlberg-will-star-in-inflation-adjusted-the-six-101940302422.html

Mark Wahlberg's The Six Billion Dollar Man Just Made A Big Change http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Mark-Wahlberg-Six-Billion-Dollar-Man-Just-Made-Big-Change-91947.html
For a little more than a year now, Mark Wahlberg has been building a remake to the popular television series The Six Million Dollar Man, with an eye toward starring in the movie (and possibly launching a franchise). Though various obstacles have stood in its way, Wahlberg’s dream project is about to become a reality, as several big steps – and one big change – locked into step. Wild Tales writer-director Damian Szifron, who had been tapped to write the screenplay for The Six Billion Dollar Man (with a "B"), now has been handed the directing reigns according to a press release sent out by TWC-Dimension. The release states that principal photography won’t begin on the film until September of 2016, however, as the movie won’t aim to be in theaters until December 22, 2017.Two years from now? This could suggest a number of things. Either Mark Wahlberg’s schedule was booked up with Peter Berg’s Mile 22 (and possibly other projects that we’re not privy to at the moment – hopefully not Entourage 2), or The Six Billion Dollar Man is going to need a decent amount of time in post-production, where effects can be added to bring the hero into the 21st Century. TWC-Dimension co-chairman Bon Weinstein said of the hire:

Mark Wahlberg will go full cyborg in Six Billion Dollar Man reboot http://finance.yahoo.com/news/mark-wahlberg-six-billion-dollar-222304354.html
It’s still quite a ways away, but The Six Billion Dollar Man (that’s billion with a ‘b’), starring Mark Wahlberg, has a release date. The Weinstein Co. has scheduled the film adaptation based on the cyborg TV series starring Lee Majors to open in December 2017, reports THR. Screenwriter Damian Szifron will now helm the project, replacing Peter Berg, who was previously attached. The movie is based on the 1970s TV series, The Six Million Dollar Man, which itself was adapted from the 1972 sci-fi novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin. Both focus on Steve Austin, an astronaut healed with bionic parts after suffering severe injuries in a terrible accident. With his high-tech upgrades, Austin is suddenly a powerful tool to the government, so he ends up working as a secret agent. The TV series places the cost of the operation at $6 million, but clearly times have changed; the movie has opted for a more impressive price tag (because a million dollars just doesn’t go as far these days, you know). Austin will likely get other new upgrades in the latest version of the story. As Wahlberg said in a press release, “We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”In addition to the latest project, The Six Million Dollar Man also spawned three television movies, which aired in the late ’80s and early ’90s, plus a spin-off series called The Bionic Woman. (The latter was also remade as a 2007 TV series.) Should the Wahlberg movie be as popular as the early TV series, it certainly seems like there’s potential for more installments in the franchise on the horizon.
