CarPlay is visual as well as audio.

Government Motors is making a considerable number of dumb moves lately.

That said, Tesla and Rivian don't support CarPlay either, so your options in the mainstream EV space are very limited (Ford Mach-E, Hyundai, and Kia?).

Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Renault, and Volvo are currently refusing to support CarPlay Ultra.
I would not be considering full EV, most likely hybrid.
Hyundai/Kia/Toyota/Jeep/Genesis are all options. Don't care about Ultra, but basic CarPlay allows for Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze.

I have had multiple cars with native navigation. They are OK at best when new, and the maps are often out of date out of the box.
The native voice recognition in the cars is nowhere near as capable as Siri/Google, etc.

With CarPlay I can be driving down the road going 65mph, and say "Hey Siri navigate to (destination, city) using Waze (or Google Maps, or the default Apple Maps) and nearly every time, it gets the destination right.

I don't have to subscribe to any vehicle service, and it just works.

Again, the primary reason is to have the map on the vehicle screen.

So I can get Waze (which is visual) to work using just Bluetooth from my phone?
If you use screen projection (assuming your vehicle's infotainment system supports it), pretty much anything you can do on your phone can be done on the car display (including voice commands).

I don't get the appeal of Waze, especially since all the crowd-sourced information is part of parent company Google and incorporated in Google Maps, anyway. And, most implementations of AAOS support Waze as a Play Store app, so you can have Waze in your big screen without having to use your phone.

The screen in the Volvo is to my liking, where I have Google Map shown in front of me, with upcoming turns and an ETA. We can do the same in the Cadillac Optiq, but it's not laid out as I would like. I end up with the default speed indication in front of me and the Nav screen in the center screen. You can also show a smaller version that includes the Music player beside it. That's pretty good for daily use.

The way I look at it, WAZE is for the Younger crowd ...
I use Google Maps (Android Auto)
I also keep up about once a month I'll look to see what add ons Google is coming up with.
They integrated the Waze type thing a while back, adding current road conditions ...
Now recently they added a button for you to Confirm if Police, Construction, Accident is still there.
Google AA did that several years ago, but didn't allow you to add info (thats the Waze thing)
I also didn't like Waze because of all the Clutter it added to your route, showing you every other Waze person on the road.

I'm happy with the AA currently, but occasionally it will change something here or there.
My buttons are on the left side of the screen normally (where I like them) occasionally, they will move to the bottom, don't know why, I suppose Google is playing with something ... and it will eventually go back.
It's nice knowing your always working with Updated software vs the Old Garmin / Tom Tom type that you had to update.

One thing I've noticed, I also have Nav in the F150, that came with the truck, it shows you the Current Speed limit for where your at, while the Google AA also does this (on the screen) ... It's not always the same ...
I've come to believe the AA speed, till I see a Speed Limit sign, figuring the Truck Nav is not being updated like the AA is.

Waze will go off the beaten track to get you where you want to go if it is faster. Google Maps is relatively conservative in striving to keep to major thoroughfares.

ZDNet article said:
Use Waze if...
  • You're driving and want the fastest possible route.
  • You love seeing live, detailed road alerts (speed traps, hazards, cops).
  • You want hands-free hazard reporting while driving.
  • You enjoy quirky features (fun voices, avatars).
  • You don't need walking, biking, or transit directions.
It is a bit like clinging to DIRECTV via satellite, given that DIRECTV via streaming is available. A lot of the motivation is inertia, but there remain some advantages to each over the other.

I guess SXM is giving out free trials through the dealership after long services. I have the EV9 at the dealership in late February for the BMS computer replacement and the dealer damaged the vehicle and it was there another 2 weeks for them to fix the body and paint damage. When I picked it up I noticed it was on SXM and then I got a letter saying I had a free 3 month trial. That ends next week and in today's mail I have letter saying that but then I also have another letter saying I have another 3 month free trial. I'm guess maybe from being at the dealership for 17 days for the high voltage battery replacement a couple of weeks ago. I don't use it much, I usually use Youtube Music or Amazon Music through carplay.

I find the audio quality of SiriusXM to be oddly varying from different manufacturers. The SiriusXM in the Volvo sounds great, as did the SiriusXM in Mrs. Foxbat's Regal. Her Cadillac Optiq, though, has sounded "echoing" at times, like listening to music through a tube. That's how it was on the Ford Escape I had, so I never subscribed to it.

As long as the stream through the Bluetooth works, we can save the 2nd car subscription if it isn't coming in right over the satellite.

Just did the annual cancel dance via chat. The opening offer was $99 year plus fees for Music and Entertainment. Ended up at $83.97/year including fees. The package includes all the sports, Stern (which I dont listen to) and streaming.

Should have just said you would think about it and given it a week and possibly gotten a lower price.Monday quarterbacking.😄

Mine is up for renewal in December. I wont spend more than $5/mo. plus tax. That's what it's worth to me. I wish there was a way to lock in the price without the "annual cancel dance" as you call it.
