Hello,

I'm diving into FTA with maybe half a clue of what I should do. And before I start trying to tune into satellites that I may or may not even get, I wondered if anyone had experience or knowledge of what are good (ie. strong) signals in the Miami area. I see on lyngsat that some sats are labelled by longitude, obviously.

I'm using the Sadoun newbie package: 30" and Fortec Star Lifetime Classic.

Two things I was hoping to get, probably not at the same time, were Cubavision and NASA. Strange combination, indeed. I see NASA itself only beams C-band, but do other satellites re-broadcast it?

And anyone know if Hispasat is even worth trying for, or is it too far east?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I'm at Macon, Georgia, a little bit north of you. Just a little bit shy of 84.0w (83.8w) 33.0n (32.6n), and I watch Hispasat regularly. Don't know where it's footprint goes, but I think you should be able to get it? NASA can be found with a Circular lnbf @ 119.0w ku on E*7. Good Luck!

Al

Ooooops.... a little late for part of the answer....

I can get Hispasat in Minnesota where the elvation is 8. In Miami you'll have no issues (unless there is a tree in tyhe way) :p

Welcome neighbor! I'm in Pompano (30 miles north). Just be careful of the up and coming hurricane/wet season. Nice weather days are few and far between for the next few months so pick a nice sunny day in Miami for installing your setup. Try (if you can) to install as close to the ground as you can. The wind is nasty to dishes.

Hi! i am from Miami too, and used to have Hispasat at 30 w, your dish is gonna look like it has no elevation at all, almost facing the ground (just kidding) but yes, it will be fine, i used to have all these channels, from Cuba ( i am Cuban by the way) and Colombia, arabics channels, and from Spain. TV Marti is also there, good luck and beware of the season.

Brian:

All satellites are "strong" here in Jacksonville on my .9M Fortec. Your dish may be smaller, but it still should be adequate. Just make sure everything is optimized, and keep working with it until you're satisfied.

I can't stress how important it is for the mast to be perfectly plumb and rigid. Mine was off by only part of a bubble and I couldn't get G10R. Worked with it until it was better, but still not perfect and I could get most of the G10R transponders. Finally, after more work to make the mast perfectly plumb, I was able to get all the transponders. Now I get good, strong signals from horizon to horizon.
