Motor Question

Have been using a SG2100 motor on my 90cm fortec dish, am seriously considering switching that dish for a 120cm fortec dish (in hopes of getting some c band along with ku - as I'd use a combo lnbf) Now can I get away with using the same motor? Its specs say it's for up to 120cm but weigh wise only 27 lbs., the 4ft fortec dish is 31 lbs. Has anyone used a SG2100 on a fortec 120cm dish? I know Sadoun sells a slightly heavier duty motor, DG380 I think...

opinion:

Here's my opinion, based on reading the forum pretty carefully for quite a few years...

- Keep your 90cm on the 2100.
- Don't try to overload a 2100, you'll break it and the new ones aren't so hot.
- If you must motorize a mini-BUD, I'd get the DG380 motor from Sadoun.
- And since the dual-band LNBF's are a bit cranky on Ku, I'd get the C2, C-only LNBF. ( review )
- get yourself a conical scalar for use on an offset dish (it functions on C-band only)
- thank you for not insisting on a 1 meter dish!

good advice from Anole.

the only happy c-banders have 10 footers.
if you can have one save your money for one.
look around your area can be picked for near nothing or free.
got a 10 footer off craiglist for free.
will need a motor and the pole install that will be a few $$

No I agree, that is definitely the preferred way to go, and it's not a matter of $, in my case what it comes down to is keeping the number of sat dishes to a min. (the wife) you see other than my directv dish and ota antenna, I'm only allowed one addition dish for my fta hobby/playing around, otherwise I was have no problem plopping a 6' c-band dish or if I live in a more rural area, yeah i guess a 10 footer, that's I'm wondering if the sg2100 would work to move a 4 footer but I guess it's probably not a great idea
