Okay I'm sure this is a dumb question but surprisingly didn't find an answer on Google...

I've got a Sony SAT-A55 (yes an antique!) that's been working fine for years until a few days ago when it croaked. Signal strength reads "0" no matter which transponder I choose.

Went to my "shelf full of DirecTV junk" and grabbed a SAT-B55, hooked it up, it gets a signal just fine.

So now my question (finally): I know from trying I can't just pull the access card out of the A55 and put it in the B55... do I need to do the "new access card" thing on the B55, or do I need to call D* or what? Are they going to make me buy a new card?

If your A55 has a reciever ID yes you need a new card but it very old so i doubt it.

If your reciever does not have a reciever id you should be able to put it in another reciever with out cause.

But if the 2nd reciever has a rid the access card will marry with the rid so pick your boxes wisely

If your new receiver does NOT have a receiver ID (which I don't think EITHER of yours do), then just simply put the card into the new receiver, call up D* customer service & after you put in your phone#, just punch in "721" & this will send out an automated rehit to all your reciever(s) on the account, which will also remarry this card to the new receiver - no CSR intervention needed.

Well "no CSR intervention" is always good! :D

These receivers are ancient - close to 10 years old so I'm 99% sure they don't have RID.

I'll try the "721" thing... thanks!
