I expect to end my Directv service after this NFL season. I have a leased, upgraded HR20 and own a non-upgraded HR20. Would I be able to easily move the hard drives between the two units and return the upgraded unit with the smaller hard drive?

This is both a technical question as well as a question of returning the DVR with 'normal' specs. I bought my service through Weaknees who said they would do this for me, but want to charge me $95 to do this and I'd rather save the $$$.

You could do that. You will need a security-type Torx driver (with a hole drilled to accept the key on the screws). When you power up the DVR after exchanging the drives, it will reformat the new drive, wiping out any recordings). Directv may have an issue with the tamper seals being broken, but since that has already happened, you have nothing to lose. Personally, I would have upgraded the owned unit in the first place.
