I dreamt up this invention, and I was thinking how many of you think this would ever be created??? I myself dont think it will be created but it would be pretty cool if it was.

Basically it is a box that connects to your internet connection in the house. Through the box you can connect as many cable, satellite, antenna, etc. sources as you want. Ill just give an example right here

Lets say you have a

FTA DISH 123W
FTA DISH 97W
FTA DISH 87W
VERIZON FIOS TV PREMIER PACKAGE PLUS PREMIUM CHANNELS
BASIC CABLE (for News 12)
And throw in an over the air antenna for some far off stations that your cable companies wont be able to provide you.

So basically you have a total of about 400 channels in your house.

All the boxes for each indiviual video source will hook up to one box which is connected to your homes internet connection.

Basically on your computer you can combine every single one of these channels, so you will not have to switch between each satellite, or cable provider or antenna provider.

You can assign each channel your own channel number. So for example channel 10 can be comedy central from FIOS, channel 11 could be a foreign channel from one of your dishes and channel 12 could be NEWS 12 from your cable company.

Basically the computer software will allow you to combine each and every channel, and since it is connected though your internet connection you can access it anywhere in the world, password protected ofcourse.

The computer software will go so far as to customize the color of the information bar that describes the name of the show. Basically everything is completley customizable. You could even have the channel 10 info bar be red and the channel 11 info bar be blue. I only think this is a good idea because once you have so many channels you could put them together in order, and also color code them. For example all the music channels could have blue info bars, and all the HBO's could have red info bars.

Channels from italy could be orange, and channels from germany could be purple etc.

There is a channel called Russia Today, and MHZ world view. Why not have
channel

83 CNN (FIOS)
84 MSNBC (FIOS)
85 FOX NEWS (FIOS)
86 MHZ world view (FTA DISH)
87 Russia today (FTA DISH)
88 NEWS 12 (Cable TV)

I guess you catch my drift.

Now from the box that all your video sources are connected to it would have an output naturally to connect out to the rest of your televisions. Every TV in your house could then be hooked up to this box and you could watch tv the way you want to see it in your home.

I just think this would be a cool invention. It would defenitley decrease clutter. You could watch every channel in every room of the house. You wouldnt need tons of stb's for all your tv's. You could flip between all your video sources seamlessly and in an organized fashion. You could buy your own dvr, and not have to pay monthly fees, and record from every video source.

Since FTA is always changing, you can always access your personal channel guide and rearrange it the way you want.

Either way if you read this far i appreciate it, and would love to hear your thoughts ;)

:)
I believe it can be done.

Didn't one of the Dreamboxes have an external accesory to combine OTA channels with FTA channels ?

Don't count on it happening anytime soon.
Were still waiting for one box that does 4:2:0 HD , 4:2:2 HD , DVB S2 , and that also supports Dolby E .

It be nice if there was a one solution system .

theoretically you could do using video web server. You would have a video card in a server that takes in each audio source. I would almost be willing to say you could use a 16 channel security dvr with a webserver built in. Audio input for each channel. Connect it to your network and log in with your network video viewer application that normally comes with them.

It is kind of a "redneck" setup doing it this way, but being a security system installer, easiest way I know of.

Yes You Can!

sure you can combine OTA and FTA. You can combine anything. And if you have security cameras, you could put those on any channel you want too. :)

Sounds like a TiVo/Slingbox combination with lots of tuners/inputs for Satellite, OTA, cable and line inputs.
For now I have a TiVo that my computer downloads the recorded shows to. It can be setup to do it automatically as well. My computer records my FTA satellite and OTA. I have a Slingbox on my subscription satellite that is connected to my DVD/HDD recorder. I set my timers over the internet to record to the hard disk and burn them to DVD latter. Your idea sounds similar to what I have setup, but integrates it all into one interface and would make control simpler. (plus add a few more features)

But rememeber, if you have a slingbox, you still have to switch between tuners, and channels are not where you want them to be. Also with a slingbox you have bad picture quality, and you can only watch it on your computer. I should know i have a sling box :D. I want to be able to hook that box back up through out your homes televisions systems without any decrease in channel quality, while having a totally linear channel changing system.

Hey I thought of some other ideas.

You know how there are some channels you can only watch online. Like for example maybe you can watch sports games online. Basically my invention would allow you to program any channel, to automatically connect to an internet channel. Yes I know you might see buffering and all of that, but it will be on a completley linear system.

For example you can have channel 7 be HBO, and when you go to channel 8 it will automatically connect to a link for streaming video playback online.

Also my invention will defenitley let you go online, so you can watch youtube video's etc.

It will be an awsome home entertainment system!

SOMEONE PLEASE INVENT THIS, lol :)
