NASA TELEVISION DEBUTS FULL-TIME HIGH DEFINITION CHANNEL

WASHINGTON -- On Monday, July 19, NASA Television will launch a
full-time High Definition (HD) channel that media, cable and
satellite service providers can access for news content and coverage
of agency missions and programs.

The channel will deliver HD video that only NASA can provide, such as
live launch coverage of space shuttles and other spacecraft. The "ISS
Update," a daily program covering the activities of the on-orbit
International Space Station crews, will air on the new HD channel.
Video of the Earth shot by crews on the station and from NASA
satellites also will be available.

NASA's video file news feed, media conferences, lectures, satellite
interviews and special events also will be delivered in HD. The NASA
TV HD channel will be offered in MPEG-2 format.

The feed is up on the Nasa TP on AMC3...logs as HQ5 (if I remember)
4000 H 28111

just color bars right now

Awesome news! I wonder if they'll use the current feed channel or add a transponder... They'll probably just keep HQ5 permanently on. Can't wait!

NASA-HD weekend Schedule

Ok, so NASA scooped me on this story, but I will still scoop them by telling you what's actually on the HD channel this weekend.I don't have actual start times, but here are the programs you should see running in a loop.* Not necessarily in this order (sorry).ISS Hour - a repeat from last week, not HD* - 1hrVideo File - several HD stories including* - various lengths* Star Trek's Lt. Uhura visits mission control, tries virtual reality lab* NASA returns oil-free baby turtles to the bay* Testing 'X-Prize' Lunar lander and other Centennial Challenges STS-133 crew training** Hurricane reel (mostly not in HD)Still waiting to see HD version of External Tank ET-138 rolloutThis Week @ NASA - approx 10 minsThe Journeys of Apollo* -* 58 mins* 35mm film > HD* This program appears to end several times and then starts up again... did it once have commercials?* So don't shut it off in the middle!* Followed by:Apollo 11 first Moonwalk footage - restored - 24 mins* Sorry NASA, you shouldn't have taped over the original data tapes!* These 'restored' recordings don't look any better than the originals.Planet Reel - 37 mins* Great HD footage of Mars, Moon, Sun, Saturn, Uranus & JupiterEnjoy!* Once again, I'm predicting the ISS Hour will be HD by Monday at 11amET ;-)--Gary*

They followed this "looped" method of programming during the past shuttle mission. They kept showing the HD Flight Day Highlights from each day, then the launch, then at the end of the mission, the landing. I guess they were gearing up for 24/7 HD programming. Sounds like some great programming on tap this weekend. Time to clear off the hard drive and fire up the Visionsat! :D
