Amazingly, he's NOT ...
He's won 4 races in the Chase and TRAILS by 3 points to Edwards what has yet to win a race.
How does that happen ?
NASCAR has to be looking to tweak again this off season.
I say give the Winner 10 points.

easy
after 26 races they started everyone in chase at same amount BUT you got 3 points extra for a win (except BK2 since he was a wild card)
so Edwards was 6 points ahead of Stewart at the beginning of the chase.

so when Smoke is good...he's really good
and when he's bad...he stinks up the joint

31 ran out of fuel, and some others had to pit the last 20 laps or so... I think it was lap 20 when he said it sounded funny, but still had good power.
Why did Edwards get 42 points?? Just for finishing?
Convoluted points system to me....
its basically 1-43
1st place gets 43 points
2nd gets 42
3rd gets 41
43rd place gets 1 point
you get 3 bonus for winning, 1 bonus for leading a lap and 1 for leading most laps
so winner gets at least 47 points...48 if you lead most laps
best 2nd place can get is 44 (42 for 2nd, 1 for most laps led, 1 for leading a lap)

Gotcha. Does seem like they need to give more points for a win, especially if they are giving bonus points for winning BEFORE the Chase.
If you add up the finishing numbers and divide by 8 Edwards is even farther ahead
Finishing avg is Edwards 5.6 and Stewart 7.3
Tony, do you get points outside of the top 20, I know there was talk about NOT, but don't think they have changed that yet.
yep you still get points except there is this other rule. At the beginning of the year drivers told NASCAR what series they were going for the championship in. Any other series you race in you get 0 points regardless of position. So as example when d**khead Busch totaled Hornaday in the truck race, Hornaday was going for the championship so he gets points
D**khead gets 0 points no matter what since he wasnt racing for the truck championship
On a more positive note..when Bayne won the 500 this year he got 0 points as he is going for the Nationwide championship. So instead of getting say 47 points he got 0. The 2nd place driver still got 42
