Hi I'm hoping someone here can help me.
We have a TV in our breakroom at work and someone has set the parental controls to block out all channels except for CNN and the Weather Channel. It's really quite annoying and the rest of us on the night shift want to switch the channel to something a little more interesting.

I'm hoping that someone out there knows a way around the parental controls with either a hardware reset or a backdoor or something.... anything would help. Thanks!

Also about %99 of my research so far says I need to call DirectTv and give them my account info and have them reset it... well this is not an option as it's not my account.

Thanks for any help.

I may be harsh here but instead of worrying about what channels to watch on the tv, maybe you and the night shift should concern yourselves with eating and then going back to work. Where I work, there is NO tv in our breakroom. Simple solution to your problem, eat and get back to work. If you want to watch tv, watch it at home and DVR your programs.

Mr. Black's first post as "Mr. Black". It seems odd to me. But if not, if you company has parental controls set, then it's for a reason. More than likely to keep from getting sexual harassment suits.

But on the other hand, I think your parents has blocked these channels at home to keep you out of them.

BAM!!!!!!
:D

Simple just go to the boss and explain you want to watch different programming and you would like the code so you can watch what you want.

Great so no real help here.
First off it may be hard to understand but yes we do have a TV in our breakroom.
Secondly we have a 30 minute lunch break and if want to sit and watch TV thats what its there for. I'm just sick of CNN and the weather network and no we're not watching porn on our lunch break any questionable channels aren't purchased anyways.

I'm not looking for moral opinions or people who think my parents blocked my directv so if you're going to comment on that I've already read it 1000 times.

All I need is a hardware reset or a backdoor to reset the parental controls.

Understood. But in all seriousness, why don't you just go ask to have it removed for the night shift guys and gals? Did you ask and they said no? Did they say they don't know the code.......what?

well i guess I have to talk to our IT or Human Resources because there's no help to be found here.

Instead of asking questions as to why its blocked all I want is an answer. If no one here has one save your time and please don't respond.

thanks.

I was trying to get some background info I though my question was justified. But I guess seeing as how no one will tell you how to bust into your companies Sat box you are angry at us.

Why don't you ASK YOUR BOSS and see what he or she says instead of trying to jack up their stuff? Go ask IT or HR I am sure they will be more than happy to help you jack it up.

Yes, you need to speak with your HR or IT dept. THEY are the ones that set the restrictions on THEIR equipment; not YOUR equipment. They DO NOT have to provide ANY tv to you. If they do, it is a benefit - not a RIGHT!!! If you are not happy with the selection, ask that they add MSNBC, FOXNEWS, Animal Planet or whatever.

You cannot come here and ask/expect/demand someone to help you break the law/TOS/rightful ownership/etc. of another.

Sorry. It is what it is.

Well your just sol as the parental lock password is set on the cam and not box. on a Directv box there is a trick you use to be able to do on a diagnostic screan reading memeory address ... But ours is on the cam so unless you have electron microscope your sol....

Bring in a set of rabbit ears and attach them to the TV...you'll have some more choices. Of course, trying to bypass the parental controls or attaching an antenna may also lead to you having much more free time than you want coupled with much less income.

Is watching TV for 30 minutes really worth risking your employment?

What's the big deal? The employer has the right to do what they want with their TV. For many years, I worked at a TV station and the sets in the lobby and the break room were always locked to only that channel. Nobody complained. In fact we use to joke to new employees that, as a condition of employment, the station would send an engineer to their homes to do the same thing with their sets.

Well, have you given us ANY info to go on ?
Like what recvr it it, they are NOT all the same.

Is the TV set to not recv. regular programming on the set , like a home network like the TV is at my office, they want you watching thier choice of TV, like intercompany stuff, nothing is available from outside channels and no remote is available.

Looks like epic fail. Like others, just ask the manager-types to unlock more channels. One place I used to work a few years ago had a tv in the break room and most channels was locked out. Someone went to the boss and they unlocked it. The box was locked due to an ex-employee watching Skinimax during a free preview and a visitor saw bunch of booberies.

Allright first off I really didn't come here to be lectured about the morality of what I'm trying to do. I came to the "satellite-guys" forum to get "satellite" information. Thanks for all the bitching about not having a TV at your job, we have one at mine, yes i realize its a privilege and yes we do work hard but the company gives us 30 minutes of unpaid time for lunch and I get to use it how I see fit.
And no it really isn't a big deal to have to watch TV at work but after being able to enjoy our lunch and breaks with some entertainment & interesting news we just wanted to have that back instead of having to watch CNN beat a dead horse every night.

From what I found out last night the reason it was blocked back to CNN and Weather is because someone on first shift was taking the remote from the pilot's lounge/breakroom and they were getting pissed so they complained to IT.

Anyways since this has turned into the "morality advice forum" I'll have to bitch to the union about it instead.

@ Jimbo - Thank you for giving about the only good advice/response so far to this thread. Sorry I don't know the model# of the box. The TV is getting programming from the driecttv box mounted beside it. It doesn't have the remote but we can navigate the menus/channels with the front buttons. From the info I gathered there were about 400+something channels purchased out of 600+channels and as of late all except 2 have been blocked out. Before when changing channels all it said was "channel not purchased" now it says "unblock channel".

All other TV's in the building have company stuff broadcast on them as far as I know the one in the breakroom and the pilots lounge are the only other ones with directtv access.

Boys, I have to agree with Mr. Black on this one. I too was a bit suspicious at first with the question and the the whole " Mr. Black" thing...suspicious enough to...and this is important...NOT COMMENT. So, Mr. Black, after reading more of the thread from our SAT GUYS "Moral Police" I can tell you that this is not the usual welcome one receives. Don't give up on us yet. I believe that your want is legit, your coments after the fact ,legit, and I hope you find away to turn that damn thing to ESPN or whatever channel you would like.

sorry to confuse anyone with the whole "Mr.Black" thing. There are just too many usernames on too many sites to remember them all and after picking that I stuck with it.
