Got a question concerning a QUAD invacom LNBF: How would I wire it to a Channel Master SAM4402? There is two SAT A and two SAT B inputs (both with 13v & 18v) inputs Where would the 2 linear and circular feeds run to? And how does this effect the 4 outputs? I am assuming that I can run one of the outputs to my switch and then to the receiver?

Thanks!

New user hooking up multiple receivers for FTA???

Hoping someone can help me out. I'am setting up my system tomorrow and mounting my dish on the roof (not looking forward to it). My true south location should be 83 right? (zip code 43026). That would be AMC3. Noticed that the sat basically have network feeds with no true fixed FTA channels. Does anyone have a know TP location that I can use for tomorrow? The idea being that it I know that I could lock on to a channel on that sat, with my motor at 0, that I should be in good shape when I scan the skys.

If anyone as another idea, please let me know. Anything to limit time on the Roof?

Thanks

Have you accidentally closed your thread? You won't get any help like that. AMC3 is not at 83w. AMC3 is at 87w. AMC9 is at 83w. A couple of live TP's with Data and No Video on AMC9 are:
12140 V 30000
12160 H 30000

Is trying to hook up just one receiver right now and plans to add a PC DVB card in the NEAR future!

Good Idea to keep all your posts about your setup here, makes life easier for everyone!

The Invacom QPH-031 will work with just two receivers for both C and L.

I use the same LNBF (QPH-031) and I use just one L and one C output, they go to a 2 way DiSEqC switch then its all set up on the receiver "Port one for Linear satellites and port two for the Circular satellites". You could do the same with two 2 way switch for one receiver or with a 4 way DiSEqC switch.

Remember each side of the LNBB has to have the correct L.O. set in the antenna setup screen!
L.O. Linear side = 10750

L.O. Circular side = 11250

AMC-9 is your true south, there are LOADS of Mardi Gras feeds there right now! best to ask just before you hit the roof and someone will give you a live TP. to use for pointing!

We do not mention channels or feeds that are not listed on Lyngsat here, thats the BEST way to lose FTA channels :)

I know you do not want to be on the roof all day........

I suggest you do not use any motor or switch to start with and find and store your true south satellite first, only then add the motor and any switch.

In the long run it may save you some time!

Thanks PSB!
Got mixed up with the AMC sat :)
In reference to your initial setup, are you suggesting finding my TRUE south sat without the motor attached or without using the motor in my setup when scanning the true south sat (AMC-9)? I figured that locking in on AMC-9 with the motor attached (i.e mouted as it will eventually be) would be the best way to start. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just a pity that there is no true FTA channels on them. Looking forward to the FEEDS!! One of the main reason I got this. Even its for a day or two, its still cool!!!

Like PSB stated, I am just trying to hook up one receiver now (Fortec Lifetime Classic NA; thanks to Sadoum) and eventually hook up a DVB card (for PBS HD and PVR purposes <since TiVO standalones don't really work>).

I really want to wire it all up now since i'll be at the peak of my two story house.

For my switch, would the both L feeds go to the 13v and the C feeds to the 18v or would l put a L & C feed to SAT A and the same to SAT B.
Even if I only could use it for two receivers, would this be the proper wiring?

VoomVoom,

Thanks for the TP info. If that will allow me to lock on to AMC 9 and fine tune then that should be the trick.

otherwise, i'll be posting at 8am est tomorrow for some feed locations :)

I would forget the switch and motor for now and just work with the linear side of the LNBF.

By all means try to do it all in one go, many folks can do it. But if all goes wrong remember you can always go back and start again without a motor.

Your true south satellite is VERY high in the sky, I would suggest finding and storing it at ground level also!

Well...a little update to today's actions:

Wasn't able to mount the dish on the roof today as my friend wasn't avaliable to hold the ladder. In the meantime, I spend most of the morning and mid-afternoon with the dish on the tripod out front. I initially tried to lock to AMC 9 with the Tp's provided but didn't have much luck. I felt pretty good about my location and remembered that it is much eaiser to eyeball circular feeds. Moved the dish to 91 sat with the motor and hooked up the circular feed. Was able to peak on a TP on Nimiq 1. After fine tuning, I switch the cable to the L feed and did a scan on G11. Finally able to pick up some Linear channels!!!. Basically spend the rest of the time scanning sats between Amaz 61 and the 127. (Everytime I tried to go to the 129, it just picks up the 127).

Think I am ready to go for the roof, but have one problem: I still don't know how to hook up the switch!!

The Switch!

Yes it will work for you, you will be able to hook up to 4 receivers with it!

The two C outputs (From LNBF) go into one side of the switch and the two L outputs go into the other side of the switch........

Then hook up 1 - 4 receivers.

Then use the 22K tone (In antenna set up screen) to toggle back and forth between C and L:)

Again add the switch when you are all done with the install and you are happy with your tracking of the Clarke Belt!

NICE!!!

I was talking with a co worker about this today and that was the diagram that made the most sense. A quick question about LNB power and 22mhz setting: is the power 13v, 18v or 13v/18v? Also, should i set the 22mhz section to on or auto?

Must be like the remote on the Viewsat...I have small hands and need my bi-focals to see the buttons...I have since added the Viewsat to my Harmony remote which also has little buttons...at least thy are lit and there is a screen!:D

Another update: Got the sat on the roof now, but install is still in the works. Looks like my pole length is just a bit small for the dish will need to add about another 2-3 inches for the sat arm to clear the peak of the roof. I rigged a extention pole to it but I need to properly secure it to prevent it from rotating from wind and motor movement. I did hook it up temp to the receiver and it looks like most of the sats are off by +4 degs (i.e have to "point" to 101 to get 97). Hopefully, when i get the pole corrected, it will take care of the offset).

Proper cabling ( secure it path down from the roof and in the house) and grounding needed to be completed. In reference to grounding, I notice that my electrical box outside has a gorund wire running into the ground, can i ground the dish there (I'll try to get a pic tomorrow)?

Did verify that the switch works using the wiring that PSB suggested (thanks!).

Due to a little snow/cold weather and some high winds, I may be grounded this weekend. (Thursday was really windy and a little scary on the roof).

One other question: I am trying to prevent having to drill a hole into the house and thought that I may have a workaround. In my neck of the woods, we've got 2 cable co's (Time warner and WOW). They both have existing runs into the house. SInce I am not using WOW, I thought that I may use their cable for entry. That would work for one receiver, but what about the other? I know that you can combine ANT and SAT signals and brach them back out (diplexers?) but can you do it to bring two sat feeds in the house and branch them back out inside?

Last question (which would help answering cabling into the house): what would be the max cable run (length) that you would suggest before having to install a in-line amp? Will it matter for the run from the 22 mhz switch (not going through a motor) or the one from the motor?

Thanks!!!

Yes the homes service point is the best place to ground it!

I would stay away from the cable companies cables........ it tends to upset them, and may cause problems! But its your home!

There are flat coax cables available that may work for you!

Can't use a Diplexers for two satellite runs as they use the same frequency. The only reason cable/off air works with diplexers and digital satellite is because they use different frequencies!

Forget the inline amp!

I have run cables upto and over 200' with no problems, of course you want to use the BEST cable you can get on runs over 200' (DualShield)

I use solid copper RG6 2.2GHz min.

Damm! Talk about a quick response!

No really going to go over 150 so I should be good. When you refer to falt cables, are you talking about getting feeds through the window or just to make it more flush on it way down the house and in it? Good to hear about the ground. Got a few gorund connectors for the coax and I can terminate those (plus the ground cable connected at the dish) outside the house.

Sucks about the diplexer idea.

Not too worried about the cable guy. If I didn't have the desire to get two feeds in, it would be clipped :)

Yes, there are little 6" lengths of flat coax that can be sneaked through windows and doors.

If the cable system is not in use I would use that hole/s!

Pete,
That's the best grounding info for satellites I have seen on the net.I see it done wrong so often. Thanks again for some great info.

Only two holes but Time Warner is still in use for me, so that leaves me with one hole to use and at least two runs to make in the house. It would work for the one receiver I have now, but I'm going to have to drill sometime so I might as well do it all now.

I need those HD channels and need it for the cable modem (no phone at the house and don't want SBC unless they offer dry dsl) so I can't clip TW.

If Dish/DTV were willing to allow some al a carte HD, then I may drop cable. But even with Dish creating new channel packs (which isn't bad I might add), its about the same as my cable bill (and I haven't added equip cost either). And I'd still have a prob with internet, so doesn't look like dish is in my future.

I actually had them years ago when I had my Dish 5000 w/hd modulator. Back then, I could just sub to showtime and HBO. That was nice!

Wanted to provide everyone with an update:

Weather was finally friendly this last wed that allowed myself back on the roof. after reprofitting the dish, I realized that the mounting pole that came with my fortec dish was just not long enough for my lnb arm to clear the roof with the motor i am using (a HH100 or HH120 would have worked over my sm3d22). Went to the depo and picked up a small pipe extender, about 3 in (small piece that you would use to connect fences together) and bolted it to the fortec pole. Made sure that I was really tight and level before going up to the roof again.) Mounted back on the roof and voila!! Checked a data feed on 83w (not sure which freq right now; at work) and moved the dish (via motor) to the 91 for fine tuning (still think that the 91 is perfect for tuning with both strong linear and cingular feeds).

Pretty much able to scan from 43w (Med sat channels) to 127w. Still need to clean up the cable and ground feeds (need a 30ft ladder for side of house).

Only prob I am having is that I can't sync on to G10 (123w) which really sucks!! I can hit the 127 (picking up Pacvia TV) fine but none of the major TPs on G10 (can get a few, but not what I want; I'll check back tonight when I get home). Able to get amos (61w) great (which I am starting to like alot during the day) and everything between. I was able to get some channels off of 30.0 W (hispasat 1D?) during my inital tests on the ground but not now. I think I'll need to take another view at the dish when I get the ladder to see if there is any obstructions (especially for g10; if there is, then the CM dish is getting installed sationary :) )

Another note: in order to get ku freq below 11700, would I need a universal LNB? the Invacom QUAD i have only good for 10750 L ?

otherwise, I am pretty happy with the setup. Able to find a few NCAA feeds this weekend too off the 87w and a few newsfeeds too. I just get a kick out of those for some reason :)
